Seven Year Switch by Claire Cook

I listened to, rather than read, this one. The reader annoyed me, in particular her voice for one of the characters was so haughty (which fit the character) to the point of obnoxiousness. She also mispronounced the classic Beach Boys's song "Kokomo."

As for the story, it was, well, fine. It's about travel, which made me want to travel. It's about putting the needs of your family first, often at your own expense/detriment. It's about learning how to do both and taking care of yourself so that you can take care of your family. It made me want to do all that. It made me want to be a phone operator or open my own group travel business.

But I found it obnoxious at times. The main character accepts that she has to give up so much because of the cards she's been dealt, but it was a bit too much whining. I could have put that aside, though, had the ending not been completely abrupt. I felt like it all just tied up in a neat bow way too quickly... maybe I missed something but there it was.
