Final book of The Books of Beginning trilogy, a fantasy series for kids. I listened to The Emerald Atlas and The Fire Chronicle on audiobook with my kids and anxiously awaited the publication of the final book.
Excellent. An exciting adventure with characters you care about, all with a powerful and meaningful resolution.
I am surprised that more people haven't read these books, because they are fabulous. Highly recommend and will be buying these as middle grade birthday gifts for a while.

This audio read again by the great Jim Dale is an enthralling magical tale and culmination of the trilogy. This book focuses on youngest sibling Emma and her connection to the Book of Reckoning. We get some of Kate's secret love story with the possibly evil and ghostly handsome Raffe and some of Michaels shy love story with the dragon fairy. And we get a tiny bit more of mom and dad. Fun.

A superb finale for an excellent trilogy (books one and two). It follows the pattern of the first two books while breaking new ground and letting the third sibling take her turn as primary. There is wondrous adventure, character complexity, weight and depth, moments of humor, real fear, real loss, and real love. There is magic, war, death, familial love, romantic love, racial conflict, instantaneous travel, time travel, dimensional travel, and so much more. It is a personal and intimate epic that is most fun and most deserving of many readers. Highly recommended.

I think I had something against the author and some of the writing that I didn't let myself become fully invested but I surprised myself by actually shedding some tears for Emma and Gabriel. I suppose from the start Emma was a character that I felt connected too which was nice. However I don't think Kate was given much depth to begin with other than caring for her siblings and Michael was just annoying. But it was good overall, moved quickly, I found myself wishing it to fleshed out more, I felt alot of easier writing routes were taken. But yes, enjoyable.

This series... honestly, I don't know what to say, I love it so much. This is one of those stories that will stay with you forever. So many ups and downs, so gratifying in their complexity, and so many beautiful moments of humanity and love. I'm sad to see it end, but at the same time the ending is so satisfying, and just as it should be. Thank you John Stephens. Please write lots more.

While I did enjoy this last installment. I definitely don't think it was as good or maybe as refreshing as the previous two books. It's nothing you haven't read before, but it was cute and I thought the ending to the series was good.
