More like 3.5. Story has a lot of potential, since the concept is pretty interesting. To me, it was executed in a mediocre way, read like a generic romance, drama introduced in random spurts, character development talked about BY THE CHARACTERS, rather than actually showing the character develop. MC annoyed me (as do most romance protags, which gave away the mediocre journey I was about to embark on). Really, I loved the concept, but did we need all that exposition about the unrealistic best friend and mother? Whatever. It had enjoyable moments. I hope other people enjoyed it more than me!!

I read this book in one sitting!! I could not stop!! It gave The Giver vibes in a way, which is my all time favorite book! This was a random library pick for me and I am so glad I grabbed it!! Alice grew so much and overcame so many obstacles as the story progressed!! Ahhhh!!! I just cannot love this enough!!!

A book about love that i felt so personal... i felt like it was written just for me. Engaging writing while at times feeling lyrical. Loved the magical realism. And Alice, oh Alice... you were so difficult for me to read. Was not expecting to see so much of nyself in this character but i did. If you're a person who loves love or even just the idea of love, want something with a little magic and a book about writing that gives you comfort, give this a read! I'm pretty confident that this is an all-time favorite of mine now.

This went from something I thought would be cute to something I reread for quotes - gathering 44 quotes and copying by hand to soak in the words. Excellent.

Interesting concept. Some of my favorite books are romance books with a touch of magic realism, so I was hooked when the magical realism aspect presented itself in this story

I honestly went blind into this book, only borrowed the audiobook because Julia Whelan is my ride or die narrator. I liked the book about 50% in, and then it started to have a slower pace. The characters just started to get annoying, and the Madeline storyline was disappointing.

I really wanted to like this book, the cover art is beautiful and the premise is intriguing, but the story truly fell flat for me. There are places where it picks up because it's a written story for another person, but then the actual narrative for Alice drags significantly. I expected more from the dad/biker bar situation, the Madeline situation was a bit too open-ended for me to feel like the author's intentions were clear, and Alice left the cats behind other than her own which bothered me to be frank. I felt that Meyerson could have wrapped things up better during each plot point and was left wanting throughout the novel.

Spice level: 0/5 (not even a kiss)
Overall rating: 3/5

I am a fan of magical realism, but there were parts of this book I just didn’t really quite get my head around, particularly the Madeline character. Alice gets inspirations to write stories that bring people to their true loves. After succeeding with her best friend Gabby, Alice becomes known as the Love Scribe, with a wait list of people wanting her services. The idea of the story is appealing, but there were times that I wasn’t sure I would finish. Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC.
