I guess I was due for a stinker. Pru is horrible and I couldn’t get behind her character at all. But a book about Quint or Jude would have been awesome.
The “karma” part of this story was 100% wasted.

I’m a sucker for Meyer’s YA sci-fi and I LOVE everything Rebecca Soler narrates, so giving this just 3 stars feels like a betrayal. But the MC felt flat and and the teenage egotism felt a little too real. Ugh - the MC’s privilege and entitlement grated my nerves and I couldn’t relate to any of the characters. Overall, it wasn’t a bad audiobook, but not my cuppa tea, story-wise.

I wanted so much to love this book because I have read nearly all of Marissa Meyer's books and have loved all of them, except this book. I think she is an incredible author and writes fantastic fantasy books and amazing re-tellings but this book just didn't hit the mark, unfortunately.
Look, I understand that I'm supposed to not like Pru at the start but it was so hard to get past her pretty insufferable personality and even towards the end of the book I still didn't like her and generally didn't care about her or her love story with Quint.
Talking about Quint, this boy didn't get enough characterisation or personality but if he was the main character I probably would have liked the book better.
Although I didn't like this book, Marissa Meyer is by far my favourite YA author and she definitely deserves more hype.

I struggled with this book. I've enjoyed several of Meyer's other books. This wasn't a book for me. I really wanted to like it and I kept waiting for something to click, but nothing did. I didn't like the characters and I couldn't connect with the plot.

Graphic: Animal cruelty, Animal death, and Injury/Injury detail
Moderate: Fatphobia, Toxic relationship, and Medical trauma
Minor: Body shaming, Death, and Car accident

Prudence is deeply judgmental and self-righteous and, while she learns over the course of the story that her personal morality lens should not be universal, the message suffers from having the only character who attempts to introduce any real nuance into how we judge whether actions are good or bad
I didn’t dislike it - the romance was fun - but its main character was not terribly pleasant and its attempts to comment on morality were sophomoric at best.
