18+ READ

“We’re okay. Just close your eyes, if you want to. I won’t let go, I promise.”

Yet again, Brynne Weaver has graced us with an amazing read with the second book in the Ruinous Love Trilogy, leather and Lark. This thrilling read follows Lark Montague and Lachlane Kane as they navigate a series of murders and a desire for one another that they can't seem to satiate. While this is a bit of a slower pace than I anticipated it to be, I don't think I would've enjoyed Lark and Lachlan's dynamic as much had it been faster paced. Weaver had me captivated through the entire read and I found I really didn't mind the enemies-to-lovers mixed with a heavy slow burn when it came to these two characters.

I have to say, Lachlan Kane is such fictional boyfriend material, it’s insane.

There were a few spicy open-door scenes, but they really didn't start until about the last 150 pages. There was definitely tension and want between Lark and Lachlan throughout the entirety of the book, but it was mostly their inner thoughts up until that last 150 pages. I'm definitely not complaining, though!

Really, the only reason I didn't give this book 5 stars is because I had a hard time getting into the first couple chapters. However, I had the same  conundrum with Butcher and Blackbird, so I think it may simply be part of Weaver's style of writing. Nonetheless, I could not put this book down once I got into it and found myself giggling in coffee shops as I devoured the banter between Lark and Lachlan.

"I had once wondered what price I would truly pay for freedom, but now the answer was murkier than ever. I wouldn’t pay with my life, or my friends’ lives, or even Asher’s. I wasn’t willing to sacrifice anyone else to be free."

"If a man could become a monster to keep my family safe, I could become that monster’s keeper."

The way that Sara C. Roethle is able to capture the maturity and growth within not only Lyssandra, but all of the characters in this series astounds me. Lyssandra, Asher, Tholdri, and Steifan have all come such a long way since the beginning of Reign of Night and I feel as though I truly know them and could have a conversation with them if they weren't fictional. That is how I know Sara C. Roethle is not only writing 5 star reads, she is a 5 star author. I truly cannot express how much this series has taken over my daily life and every thought I have. Yet again, I don’t think I will ever stop recommending this book and this series.

I was really nervous going into this book because the reviews made the FMC seem unbearable, but I'm so glad I read it for myself. Yes, Sloan was difficult to relate to at times, but I found her want to protect those around her, even if it meant losing everything she loved, pretty admirable. The MMC Josh had a great character development throughout the story and I found him to be very lovable and I really looked forward to reading the chapters in his POV.

Not only did I love how Abby Jimenez wrote the human characters in The Friend Zone, but I fell in complete love with Stuntman Mike, Sloan's dog. The personality of this little fur ball was so prevalent throughout the book and I truly enjoyed reading about him every single time he was mentioned.

I do have to say that I got to about 1/3rd of the way through the book at a good pace then got bored and had to set it aside for a minute, but once I got through the next couple chapters, it was smooth sailing once again.

Butcher and Blackbird is a book that not many people would recommend to anyone they know. However, that's not because it's a bad book. Butcher and Blackbird is a thriller-type dark romance about two serial k!llers who have an annual competition to k!ll that year's "victim". Who are their "victims", you ask? Terrible people who have done horrendous things. Absolutely terrible people. As the story progresses, the two characters struggle with their growing attraction for one another and how to navigate this newfound "relationship".

I absolutely LOVED this book, but I did have a bit of a hard time getting into it at first. The beginning of the book seemed to drag on a slight bit, but once I got hooked I was in for the ride and I loved every second of it. The characters developed beautifully throughout the story and complimented one another perfectly. The plot is extremely unique and I found myself captivated for hours on end while reading Butcher and Blackbird and hope that Leather and Lark will have me entranced the same way.

"If you go down, I go down. If you turn into a monster, then I will become a villain at your side."

She’s done it again, and this time she had me bawling at 3 in the morning. Yes, the Study in Shadows series is continuing to be a 5-star series for me with each book being just as amazing as the last. Lyssandra and Asher’s relationship has come so far and the growth between both is something I never saw coming, even with all the growth we had seen in the first two books. Not only have they both grown within their relationship, they have both, especially Lyss, grown within themselves and their morals.

(I do need to add that Lyss and Asher’s relationship is spicier than ever in this book, but the scenes can mostly be skipped if you feel the need to.)

Lyss never thought witch blood would be a part of her life, but she had also never thought she'd be in a relationship with an ancient vampire yet here she is. With Eiric loose and more questions than answers, Lyss must navigate her newfound magic and how to defeat possibly her most difficult and dangerous foe in her life.

If I could only say one thing about this book, it's that it absolutely destroyed me but in the best way. I CANNOT WAIT to read the final book of the series, even though I know I'll cry for days leaving the characters and world behind.
