“We’re okay. Just close your eyes, if you want to. I won’t let go, I promise.”
Yet again, Brynne Weaver has graced us with an amazing read with the second book in the Ruinous Love Trilogy, leather and Lark. This thrilling read follows Lark Montague and Lachlane Kane as they navigate a series of murders and a desire for one another that they can't seem to satiate. While this is a bit of a slower pace than I anticipated it to be, I don't think I would've enjoyed Lark and Lachlan's dynamic as much had it been faster paced. Weaver had me captivated through the entire read and I found I really didn't mind the enemies-to-lovers mixed with a heavy slow burn when it came to these two characters.
I have to say, Lachlan Kane is such fictional boyfriend material, it’s insane.
There were a few spicy open-door scenes, but they really didn't start until about the last 150 pages. There was definitely tension and want between Lark and Lachlan throughout the entirety of the book, but it was mostly their inner thoughts up until that last 150 pages. I'm definitely not complaining, though!
Really, the only reason I didn't give this book 5 stars is because I had a hard time getting into the first couple chapters. However, I had the same conundrum with Butcher and Blackbird, so I think it may simply be part of Weaver's style of writing. Nonetheless, I could not put this book down once I got into it and found myself giggling in coffee shops as I devoured the banter between Lark and Lachlan.
