A Court of Wings and Ruin by Sarah J. Maas
5.0
This book ruined me in the best ways. Characters I thought I hated had me bawling my eyes out when they died...
Den of Vipers by K.A. Knight
5.0
Title: Den of Vipers
Author: K. A. Knight
Genres: Dark Romance, Reverse Harem, Adult, Fiction, Contemporary
Page Count: 654, kindle edition
Favorite Quote: "Throw me to the wolves and I will come back leading the pack."
Rating: 5/5
Going into reading "Den of Vipers", the reader is immediately thrown into the world of the four men known as the Vipers and their deal with a man named Rob, who has given over his daughter as payment for his debt. With no intention of ever falling in love with a "debt", the Vipers take Roxanne into their home, not knowing their fates have already been sealed and lie in the hands of this woman. Throughout the book, the four men, Ryder, Kenzo, Garret, and Diesel, as well as Roxanne are faced with a series of "issues" that the reader is able to see from the viewpoints of each of the five main characters. While this book is definitely a "spicy" read, I found that there was a very good ratio of spice-to-plot with a fairly even mixture of the two.
At first, I wasn't all too sure about this book. Not because it's a bad read, in fact it's my favorite book I've read in my adult years, but because I had the expectation of hating it due to the nature of the relationship between Roxanne and the Vipers. I have fallen completely in love with the chemistry in this book and it was the only book that could get me out of a reading rut. K. A. Knight's writing is exquisite in "Den of Vipers" as she uses amazing imagery and does a beautiful job of not telling the reader, but showing the reader the thoughts of each character and the scenes that make up the novel. From reading others' reviews of "Den of Vipers", I have found that many people have easily fallen in love with each character, including myself. I absolutely recommend this book to any adult reader who is looking to dive into a new world that likes steamy, dark romances and enjoys some of the mafia trope, without it being the entire personality of the book.

Lightlark by Alex Aster
4.0
Author: Alex Aster
Genres: Fantasy, Fiction, Young Adult, Romance
Page Count: 416, hardcover
Favorite Quote: "There are lies and liars all around you…"
Rating: 4/5
To be quite honest, I found this book because of TikTok. The factor that drew me in the most was how Alex Aster marketed her book to those who liked to read dystopian young adult books when they were younger and needed more. I had expected to love this book, but the reviews I read beforehand scared me. I almost didn't buy the book. However, I bought the hardcover on accident at Walmart one day and felt it was fate, so, obviously, I had to read it.
I loved "Lightlark" and would have given this book a 5/5 rating if it weren't for one factor that I caught throughout the book: it feels as though Alex Aster was trying to write like Suzanne Collins, Veronica Roth, or some other young adult fiction author. Don't get me wrong, Aster's writing is great and I found myself reading until early hours of the morning, but I do wish I had felt like I was reading her work and not a mixture of other authors' works. That being said, the plot and writing in "Lightlark" were exemplary and I found myself gasping and yelling at the characters as if they were in my living room with each of the many plot twists.
I would definitely recommend this book to any reader who enjoyed the "Divergent" trilogy, the "The Hunger Games" trilogy, the "The Selection" series, or just about any other young adult fiction book. I grew up on these works and that is the reason I was so excited for "Lightlark" to be released. However, I do not want to let anyone down in telling them that Aster is the "next" Suzanne Collins, while her book may seem extremely similar to Collins' famed works.
As I previously stated, I did genuinely love this book and have already pre-ordered the next book in the series and am beyond excited for it to be released in November of this year.
