I totally called Mrs. Winstone, especially when she got the baby and then the love letters to Ginny had but I didn't think Greta initially cause I thought it'd be too obvious.
I loved how witty everyone was and I loved that the main plot aside from Harry and Wyn's relationship was her friendship with Cleo and Sabrina. I also met my best friend freshman year of college, I'm about to turn 30, and I'm finishing medical school next week. Tbh I didn't love that she fully gave up on it but I also get it.
I'm a sucker for found family and for second chance romance so I sobbed pretty much throughout this whole book. Both Harry and Wyn were self-sabotaging bastards which is frustrating but does make for some good angst.
God this book felt like gaslighting 101. I kind of figured out the Martha thing just based on the previous books but the full depth of their connection was interesting to learn.
It's the doctor in me but I knew Nico was being abused when he he had that sudden personality shift. Honestly thank god it didn't escalate to physical abuse cause that was my first thought. Mr. Lowell being a disgusting predator also gives a lot of context to the scene where he almost seemed resigned about not having kids after Suzette jumped in immediately about why they were child free.
I didn't expect Martha to be the one from the first chapter but I liked the twist and "no one expects the housemaid" was such a good line!!
Cecelia setting up Ramirez with her mom is v cute (it took me a minute to remember who she was), but I will never forget that Enzo slept with her before getting with Millie!!! Community dick!!!
I figured out the Ashley thing about halfway through and I initially really loved it but the whole rape bit really took me out of it. I gotta say, I'm not a huge fan of sexual assault as a plot driver. That scene could have been written in a way that wasn't rape but did still convey a similar emotion, imo.
And then MORE RAPE!!! I didn't like that the multiple rapes ended up being Ashley's catalyst cause this story is about Bennett, dammit!!! The whole "you didn't know" scene really bothered me because it makes him the victim in this. I liked her forgiving them for herself but Ashley did not deserve it so easily. How could he not have at least suspected the situation on that boat?
Thank god Priest faked the rape in front of Madwulf. And thank for the syphilis thing cause I would have DNF'd it if there had been a third round of raping Bennett.
I did pretty much sob my way through this book overall. I would have rated it higher if not for Ashley raping Bennett.
