The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins
4.0
omg this was so much fun! i can’t believe i had this sitting on my shelf for 8-10 years and didn’t read it until now. i had bits and pieces in my mind from the movie so it was really fun to see the way it played out in the book with all the details that the movie would have left out (deaf??? new leg??? dented skull???)
in terms of the story, it was so enjoyable and had me hooked the whole way. my heart aches for peeta knowing he was genuine in it all, but at the same time i can’t blame katniss. she’s 16, in a life or death situation, with 0 experience of love beforehand. she did what she knew would keep them alive. she doesn’t even know her own feelings right now, so i can’t be mad. but, that doesn’t stop my heart from breaking for peeta who was blindly in love.
i will say this book loses a star for me for probably a petty reason. katniss prior to entering the hunger games just got on my nerves constantly, and i could only excuse her actions because of her trauma and age to a certain extent. she’s a smart girl, why was she acting in stupid, impulsive ways? my friends disagree with me on this but i can’t get this feeling out of my head.
overall i ate this book up (so did my cat), and can’t wait to start the rest in the series. i can’t remember the movies for the rest so the books will be a complete surprise (slightly scary)

One True Loves by Taylor Jenkins Reid
4.5
4.5 stars
this book has made me experience a wide range of emotions, changing from chapter to chapter. i went from not being able to stand emma to understanding her, to hating her, to liking her - everything. although i still don’t believe i would have gone through this situation the same way as her due to our differing beliefs, i can honestly understand her.
jesse and sam, i loved them both so so so dearly, my heart broke for them both. the way their pain was written just tugged at my heartstrings again and again.
jesse - it hurts knowing he spent all those years yearning for the love of his life only to come back and have her gone. this entire concept is so painful.
sam - it’s not his fault that he was involved in all of this. he felt all this pain, felt like he was the ‘asshole’, for nothing.
the characters were so well written and the story was very emotional and thought provoking, but it loses half a star just because the ending was somewhat too happy for me. too happy for the situation, too happy compared to what i would think reality would be. it wasn’t a BAD ending because it was happy, but it just felt unreal.

Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins

rating this book 4 stars.
it loses a star because of everyone who died. i know i know it makes the story more emotional and may have been essential to the plot. but, no. finnick and prim. end of story.
this book hurt me so badly. im writing this review holding back tears. the way it became so serious, everyone forced to grow up completely, no more games, all the deaths. it was amazing of course, but compared to the earlier books, i found no comfort (you can see why).
finnicks death was not acknowledged enough for my liking. he deserved so much more. i was disappointed with prims death too until buttercup came back. that made me so sad.
i wish gale remained in her life in some way, because i personally did not blame him for prims death. i wish katniss could forgive him.
overall, this series is a classic and i wish i had read this when i was younger too. can’t believe this was my first read.

so emotional, the perfect ending. so much drama and action, so many plot twists. did not think a childrens series would make me cry.

really fun to read and got me sucked in to the point where 2 hours went by and i forgot i was even reading. liked a whodunnit from the perspective of a character like molly as i’ve never seen it before. felt a little rushed at points (since it’s a shorter book i expected this), and i weirdly felt a sense of disappointment with certain characters (maybe i expected more from them? to see more of their cunning ways?). overall it was really fun to read and i enjoyed it.

the plot got me really excited but was a bit disappointed with its delivery. felt like i was reading a filler book, where crowell wanted certain things to be achieved, and just scribbled down a quick story in order to get that outcome. nevertheless, the whole idea behind this story was entertaining, i just wish it was executed with more detail and spice
