Animal Farm by George Orwell
3.0
You always know that when you get through a book in less than 24 hours its either because you love it, or because you just can't wait to have it behind you. With this one, I wasn't so sure. Animal Farm is a book I have always wanted to read. After reading 1984 earlier this year, this was definitely on the top of my to read list. At the beginning of the book where the Rebellion was first brought up, I thought this is great! Animals taking over a farm by overthrowing the farm in one quick step but it soon became clear that the animals were no better off without the farmer. I wasn't aware of the political story behind it until I spoke to my mother-in-law but I could see it immediately once she told me. About half way through the novel, I started to get really annoyed. What happened was completely obvious yet I was hoping the animals would do something about it. And they didn't. They just let everything happen as it was because they weren't intelligent enough to even know where to begin. I hated the character Napoleon and all his friends and I loved Boxer for his will and effort to please everyone. I think I'll pick this book up again but this time around I was happy to close it.
Goodnight, Beautiful by Dorothy Koomson
5.0
This my third Dorothy Koomson book after I fell in love with "My Best Friends Girl." My reading urge died for a while and this book brought it back to life. I'm glad it ended the way it did even though I was lay in bed crying my eyes out and had to go and see my little girl, fast asleep when I'd finished, just because if it had ended any other way, it would have been too obvious. I really liked the characters Nova and Mal and wished constantly through the book that they could have been together. I'm waiting for the next Koomson book to fall into my hands as I need some more of this!
I Play the Drums in a Band Called Okay by Toby Litt
3.0
Clap is the drummer in a band called okay. This book is full of short stories of the band while on tour, with family, relationships, births and deaths. I found it a bit slow at first and couldn't really see the point of the stories as I didn't know where they were going. But after a few more chapters I began to warm to the characters. The band are great. They're a proper rock band, each with a problem whether it be drugs or alcohol or both. I did find it hard to follow at times with it being short stories and it not seeming to be in a proper order and I found myself confused as to what was happening at times. Maybe that was the late night reading though!
I'd read another of Toby's books as I did enjoy this one. It wasn't a favourite but I'd probably pick it up again as a quick read.

The Bad Mother's Handbook by Kate Long
3.0
It took me a while to get into this book. It was very slow at the beginning and it was hard work trying to figure out who was speaking because the change of text was so similar between Karen and Charlotte. About half way through I started to enjoy it but it still wasn't the most amazing book I have ever read. I was glad to get it finished and read it quickly so it was out of the way.
The Boy in the Striped Pajamas by John Boyne
3.0
I honestly have no opinion on this book. I read too many reviews with too many varied opinions to make my own comment on it. There were a lot of things that annoyed me with it and I thought it would have been a lot better had it been an adult book with about double the amount of pages and lots more description but as a kids book, it wasn't too bad. I wasn't aware it was a children's book when I bought it otherwise I probably wouldn't have even picked it up. I might give this another try in a year or so and try and form a real opinion.
Twilight by Stephenie Meyer
2.0
I really fought with the book. One minute I liked it, the next minute I hated it. I actually tutted, out loud at this book. I have never, ever tutted at a book before. I skipped through the final three chapters just to get it finished because by this point I was just annoyed with it and couldn't believe how pathetic it really was. Yet, I still feel like I want to read more. I feel like there is more to the story and I should keep reading the series to see if I'm right. I need a break though. I need something a lot more intelligent to keep me from become insane for a while.
If I could sum up this book in one line, it would be this; I felt like I was reading a really bad fanfic of a really good book.
And I really want to read the actual book so I can get the proper story.

After Dark by Haruki Murakami
3.0
This is the first book I have read by Murakami and I don't really know what to think. I liked the ideas behind the story but I didn't really get the point of it. I would read another one by him though so I enjoyed his style of writing and found it an interesting read.
