American Wife by Curtis Sittenfeld

I liked this book but I didn't love it. Part four took me longer than the others to get through even though it was the shortest. I loved reading about Alice's life growing up and then marrying Charlie but around 400 pages in, I started to wonder what the whole point of it was. It's a nice read but I won't be rushing to pick it up again soon.

One minute I loved it and the next I hated it. Italy was great, I was glad when India was over and I kept changing my mind about Indonesia. It annoys me when I can't make a firm decision about a book. I am interested in reading her next book Committed, just to see what happened next but I'm in no rush.

As a runner, who thought barefoot running was a load of rubbish, I was very surprised to find myself wanting to get out there and run barefoot, just to see if there was a difference in my gait. I have even found myself walking around the house with no shoes on and I come from a house where, growing up, I was told you MUST keep your shoes on ALL the time.
The story of the Tarahumara is fascinating and I loved learning about each character in the book. There was a lot of background information about everyone and everything and there is nothing you are left wondering about. It's an inspirational story that makes you want to get out and blast 10 miles out every time you pick it up. It brings back running for pleasure instead of the constant self-improvement and running to become the best.
