Visions of Sugar Plums by Janet Evanovich

This goes beyond formulaic. Strange man in Stephanie's apartment - check. Car burns - check. Stephanie blunders a capture - check. Rushed resolution of weak plot - check. I have to wonder if she just cuts and pastes, then changes names... three more novellas and I'm done with this series. Not sure I'll be reading 19 when it ever comes out.

I do not get the love for this book. Nevermind that it started life as a Twilight fan fic, as if that wasn't bad enough... Why are American characters speaking in obvious Britishisms?? Why do they say each other's names repeatedly in conversation? No one speaks like that in real life! It just flowed bad. Abrupt scene changes. Useless scenes period. Confusing exchanges b/t characters. Maybe it made sense in her head, but it defintely failed on paper. And why did they murmur all their dialogue? You'd think a forceful dominant like Mr. Grey would speak with authority. Jeez. Yes, I'm being facetious. And the repetiton of words, descriptions. With all the clenching low in her belly, Ana should have some pretty awesome abs. *rolls eyes* Yup, still being facetious. This was disapointing. No different from any other romance. And pretty tame for erotica... *yawn* I want my $10 back for the Nook book. But I always finish a series I start. Hopefully, the next one is better. But if she follows in the footsteps of the woman she "borrowed" from, I have little hope...

1. I'm glad this was free. 2. I'm glad I've finished this trilogy and can move on to something worth my time.
This is probably more a 2.5 than a 2. I thought I saw hints of a real plot, but I might be mistaken. There was definite and obvious character growth. But her writing over all just does nothing for me.

Through a Glass Darkly by Karleen Koen

This book was maybe 300 - 400 pages too long. It dragged and she droned on and on in descriptions and dialogue. The ebook is horribly edited. There were sentences everywhere that made no sense. Nevermind the ones that were cut off at the end of sections. It read at times like a textbook, at other times like an essay, and still at other times like a dictionary. To top it off, it was 95% depressing as hell! The author seemed confused about the genre. It quoted the Bible so heavily that it could've been religious fiction. But then there were a couple oddly placed and unneccesary sex scenes. As for this being Barbara's story, we could've spent more time with Barbara. And like others have said, Roger's big secret was obvious from its first mention. This was disappointing...
