To be honest, I have such high hopes for this book. It started off so strong. But then from the middle of the book to the end, I was confused. It was about everything and I really couldn’t understand the plot. I didn’t know what was the premise or the main point of this book. The book was all over the place.

Even finishing it, I don’t even see why the name of the book was Blessings. It was not a full circle moment for me.

This book was intense.. Like super intense.

I started off reading it physically, but then I had to move to Immersive reading which is both audible and physical reading combined. I realized I should have just done Audible from the jump.

Anyway, this book was different from any book I've ever read. This book was very dense and jammed pack with a bunch of action. (probably why I struggled)

Imagine, Hunger games, Wakanda Forever, and Woman King all wrapped into one book but takes place in an American Prison and (IN)justice system. Citizens of the world are controlled by HMC's and given life sentences and set to kill one another. But they have special powers and special abilities which help them move up in ranking. Nonetheless, they are not in control of their own lives.

I really did enjoy the book though. I learned a lot from it. The footnotes added an element of literature and history I was always ready to enjoy.

I usually don’t read self-help or memoirs because they’re not my type of genre, but I particularly enjoyed this one.

Knowing Matthew McConaughey as an actor, and then now as an author truly inspired my love for him.

He shed an optimistic perspective about his growth to fame and all the valuable lessons that he learned during his journey. It wasn’t just  given to him ever. But those were all green lights. Even the yellow and red lights too were green lights.

I appreciated  this because it felt very personal as if I was having a conversation with him, while  also I finishing the book knowing that they were takeaways to be learned! I highly recommend & appreciate his insight!

How do I rate this book without giving it away? :/ Anyway, definitely a 5-star read.

Brooklyn endured a very tumultuous life from beginning to end. Very overlooked an misunderstood , yet  also blamed for her results.

This book was very emotional and at times difficult to read but such an amazing storyline. Definitely shed light onto the statistical "hood" storylines we often see for Black young girls and Black families raised in churches.

My thoughts are all over the place rn- but I think I just enjoyed how RAW and REAL this book was.

There are some trigger warning enclosed, as well.

A-freakin-mazing. The entire time I was reading this book, I was at the edge of my seat. There were times where'd I be full-blown busy and wanted to read bc the storyline had been JUST THAT capturing. I loved it. Although, it took place in a YA setting, I did not feel as though the storyline was YA. Abike-Iyimide did an amazing job at capturing an invigoration storyline with a blend between thriller, suspense, murder, and fiction.
