this wasn't everything I wanted it to be, but it was still very fun and the writing is so hilarious that it makes me want to read more from a man

not my first pride book of pride month being a dud.....

let's start with the good:
- I actually really liked the writing for the most part. it was clean, funny, and (mostly) polished
- oh you thought there was going to be more?

the bad: 
- were there actually two characters here? because they certainly felt the same! they had the same personality, the same goals, the same way of speaking, the same way of thinking, and I literally never knew who I was reading from.

my personal preference violated:
- they both had pre-established crushes on each other before the book even started. where was the tension? why am I supposed to care at this point?
- they started hooking up less than 100 pages into the story. again, where is the tension?

3.5 for enjoyment but oh my god would I get a restraining order against Alex if I were Ava

any book that doesn't encourage you to forgive toxic family members in the end is a 5 star in my book

ngl at the beginning of this book I was NOT vibing. Callum was soooooo icky and every time we were in his pov I had 911 on the phone with me. but as we got more and more into it, I got more and more into it to the point where for a second there I was willing to forget all that. definitely not forgetting all that now but still had a great time

This was my first Abby Jimenez and even though this wasn’t a full length novel, i fully get the hype. This was so cute and funny, and even in 60 pages their chemistry was insane

third dnf in a row......

I really didn't want to dnf this. it's literally 250 pages. I mean I wasn't going to rate it higher than a 2.5, but still.

I liked the first book. It wasn't mind-blowing or anything, but I had a good time. this one though? lmao. I do not remember Lila being the most insufferable person in the world. 

in this book, she has acted so immature that it was hard to view her as an adult. first, she was acting so out of line every time someone brought up her dead mom. someone would bring her up and Lila acted as if they had killed her themselves! like girl you're judging a beauty pageant. your mom was a beauty queen. someone is going to bring her up! and not one person said anything malicious. they would simply bring her up. not that you can police how people grieve, but girl it's been 20 years get a grip.

also the way she was toying with her romantic prospects pissed me off. she's been leading them both on since the first book, and poor Jae got the short end of the stick here. (making me sympathize with a man!) Lila clearly isn't going to be engaging in an actual relationship with Jae anytime soon, AND she's leading on another man at the same time, but god forbid Jae starts talking to someone else. let's invite literally every single one of his friends to dinner so we can publicly humiliate him! sure!

when I realized it wasn't worth it to push through and I needed to dnf is when I put down the book to find a new dentist closer to my new job. I put down a book. to look for a dentist. ????

pre-read: The only reason i’m reading this is bc i loved The Marriage Game….. a venture capitalist AND “he broke my heart ten years ago” is going to be a hard pass under any other circumstances

update, page 48: So far there’s been a captain america sleep shirt, an avengers mug, a general marvel tote bag, and a “limited edition” captain marvel watch. Oh, and she describes herself as a manic pixie dream girl. So needless to say i’m having a great time 🙄

update, page 51: THERE’S ANOTHER MARVEL TOTE BAG this might be one of my last straws

dnf @ p. 51: reader, it was my last straw. I was so irritated that I wasted my time with this terrible book that I went and decluttered my mom's shelves. reader, I cleared out two.

it's not even necessarily that this book was bad, I just get it. I get the point. I don't need to read any more and I won't gain any more.
