ooo i like this so far! i love the art style, the magical world, the magical system is interesting (and reminds me of how luz, a nonmagical person, uses magic in the owl house), and the mystery is compelling! i want to know more of what will happen and i love the blend of humor in this. qifrey and the eye mask witch both seem to see coco as a “last hope”, this poor girl doesn’t know what she’s walking into.
Future State: Wonder Woman by Various
2.5
i didn’t know half of what was going on, but it was fun to try and put the information together that was given to me. i’m intrigued by nubia and yara flor and i really want to read more from them and their stories. my best friend loves jon kent so it was cool seeing yara being friends with him. i love her personality and immaturity and smart comebacks. the last story, immortal wonder woman, was so chilling and fascinating. i looked up what DC’s infinite frontier was and it seems to align with this as it’s the rebirth of DC characters and new characters and it was so cool to see wonder woman’s power. it felt appropriately preachy for being such a big send off, if a little eyeroll-worthy for someone not accustomed to the story already.
Sweet Tooth Vol. 2: In Captivity by Jeff Lemire
the mysteries are building and i’m absolutely getting drawn into this. the art style is so funky and it fits the offputting atmosphere; i loove how the eyes are drawn.

I looved the world that Jemisin built in this book and i find it so impressive how extensive it is and how planned out it is. I loved the appendix’s in the back, even though they put me to sleep a little bit, because the sheer dedication and elaborate worldbuilding is incredible. I don’t think i’ll ever be a fan of reading through dictionaries, no matter the universe.
The book constantly had me surprised and I loved every secret that was revealed and it was increasingly horrifying to learn more about the secrets of the world. I loved how things finally started to click for me near the end, especially the use of 2nd person for Essun. It was a little slow for me at times, but I feel immersed in this world and will be reading the next two books. Because I can’t resist it and need to talk about the worldbuilding again, this book raised the bar for my standards and i’m not sure how that’ll work out for me but BRAVO Jemisin.

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow by Tom King

this art was utterly amazing and i loved it so much. it’s so colorful and so lively, i really felt transported to all the different worlds this comic portrayed. i loved seeing the intricacies of supergirl and their take on revenge.

waaaa this was so good. i love seeing how they all try and continue after marko’s death and hazel’s line about asking why she felt so little was so devastating. constantly seeing how she’s shut herself off and tries not to make herself a burden is so sad. she’s had to see and endure so much. i love seeing her personality show through her clothes and squire’s showing through his. i wonder about bombazine’s past as well and i love the endwife sooo much. hazel’s line about the reader not having to remember the two new character’s names hurt too. sooo good i heart saga.
