interesting and informative, but i felt that it was lacking in some ways? the book had a good structure and lots of examples and references but i wish there was more discussions on sex in regards to someone's race, class, and especially sexuality. men should definitely read this tho
she's everywhere, she's so julia! i was unfamiliar with her upbringing and didn't really know that much about her personal life but i find that i have a new found respect for her after everything she's been through. a victim in many aspects, yet still incredibly privileged in a lot of others. it made me think a lot about her interview with ziwe and i'm interested to see what's next for her + loved the audiobook!
dnf-ing this for the third time is so embarrassing yet here i amðŸ˜ðŸ˜ i will finish it one day i want to know what happens i just don't care to read itðŸ˜
i remember watching this tedtalk when i was younger and angrier and how much it helped shape the foundations of my feminist learning, but having finally gotten around to reading the book as someone now older and wiser, i find myself a little disappointed :( a little heteronormative and definitely cis-centric and not very intersectional?? or rather unwilling to realize that factors like class make SIGNIFICANT influences in the way one relates to gender but surely a good—and maybe even essential—read for other fourteen year old girls and those beginning to learn more about gender inequalities in our societies. grateful for the impact that it had on my youth!
EDIT: just found out she's transphobicðŸ˜ðŸ˜ðŸ˜ðŸ˜ cannot in good conscience recommend this
need some time to articulate my thoughts and write a review but very sad very well written :( even the characters i did not like i understood, while not excusing, how intergenerational trauma caused them to be the way they are :( this is also one of those books that i wish i could discuss with an english class
so much fun my favourite bridgerton book i think! hate how insecure colin gets about lady whistledown for a bit but at the end of the day he's proud of pen and will stand by and up for her, yup!!!!! also spent the book thinking about how drastically different the show is gonna be unfortunately :( whatever
"And then I think about how loving someone is kind of like being President. In that it doesn’t change you, not really, it brings out more of the you that you already are." didn't care for some of the stories, and thought others were very well done but overall fun and silly and so full of love! also thought it was cute how the audiobook was read by the author and his friends
