The Lottery Winner: Alvirah and Willy Stories by Mary Higgins Clark, Mary Higgins Clark

I got this book for free at my work when a fellow co-worker left a pile of books in the main bathroom/locker area. I was not expecting it to be a compliation of short stories but I am truly enjoying being able to read it during my breaks at work. I have always loved Mary Higgins Clark and am looking forward to adding another one of her books to my list.

Completely not what I was expecting but in a delightful way! This 526 page book kept me turning pages the whole way through! Absolutely wonderful, detailed and intriguing!
News to Me: Adventures of an Accidental Journalist by Laurie Hertzel

I had the pleasure of not only meeting Laurie Hertzel but sharing a meal and great conversation with her when she came up to Grand Forks to speak at our annual Hagerty Lecture given at our local newspaper. Reading how she worked her way up in the journalism world and how her career was pretty much thrown in her face was exciting and extremely enjoyable for me. I'm very grateful for not only being able to meet Laurie but being able to live vicariously through her early journalism days through 'News to Me'.

I couldn't finish this book. I don't know if it was the way in which the book is set up or the plot itself but I didn't get hooked within the first hundred pages. The characters were some I thought I would love, and the underlying story of the book originally caught my attention but sadly it didn't last much after page twenty or so. I didn't feel connected to the book, it didn't pull me in and it left me wanting so much more. Maybe someday I'll finish it, just not someday soon.

Intriguing, quick and fun to read, Heart of the Witch was enjoyable and worth my time. I found myself feeling wrapped up inside the plot and wanting to know more about the characters. I did feel that the ending could have been a little...stronger. The last forty pages or so seemed very predictable. But what romance isn't? Overall, a good book to transport me to a different time and a different place.

An interesting way of looking at why we buy into the things we do. It is informative and intriguing. I had to read this book for my Creative Advertising Strategies class and found it enjoyable and worth my time. Not anything that I probably would have come up with on my own but once I read it, completely agreed with what was being said and taught.
