The Last House on Needless Street by Catriona Ward
This book encourages the reader to approach Dissociative Identity Disorder from a place of such empathy that I am left in awe. Ward has demonstrated a mastery of the craft here - somehow managing to take the reader by the hand, lead them into the depths of real horror, and gently lead them out again. The light in a tunnel is only at the end, but Ward will get you there safely, if not altogether the same.

Falling Down by Guillermo del Toro, Chuck Hogan
2.5
The book is well written enough, but it’s the equivalent of a chapter - and a short one at that. I wonder why del Toro and Hogan decided to go with this format. Expecting a short story, I felt jarred when the book ended.

A delightfully dark read. The message is not subtle but it is charmingly insane.
