The Vanishing Half by Brit Bennett
4.0
This book was a really fast reading that I read, and it took me a day only to finish reading this book
The book tells the story of twin sisters, Desiree and Stella, who grow up in a small, southern black community, but take very different paths in life. Desiree marries a black man and has a daughter, while Stella passes as white and marries a white man. The novel follows the sisters and their families over several decades, exploring themes of race, identity, and the impact of the past on the present.
What makes this book stand out is the way it skillfully balances the crime fiction element with the historical and social issues it addresses. The characters are richly drawn and the story is well-plotted, keeping the reader engaged throughout. Bennett's writing is beautiful and evocative, and she manages to create a sense of time and place that is both authentic and thought-provoking.

King of Wrath by Ana Huang
2.0
To be honest I read better stories on Wattpad.
This story was no different from any other so-called romance stories that I read.
The whole thing was the same
Nothing new just some here and there that were a bit different.
The plot seemed the same.
Well I gave it 2 out of 5
I didn't enjoy it and it wasn't interesting to read either.
Nothing new in the story!

Serpent & Dove by Shelby Mahurin
3.0
I recently finished "Serpent & Dove" by Shelby Mahurin and I have to say, I was a bit disappointed. I was expecting a thrilling and exciting fantasy adventure, but instead, I was met with a slow-paced and predictable story. The characters were not as compelling as I had hoped and their interactions felt forced and uninteresting. The world-building was average, and I felt like the magic system was not well-explained.
Despite these shortcomings, there were a few things I did enjoy about the book. The premise of the story was intriguing and had the potential to be a great read. I also appreciated the attention to detail in the historical and cultural elements that were incorporated into the story.
Overall, I would rate "Serpent & Dove" a 3-star book. While it wasn't the greatest read, I don't regret giving it a chance. However, it didn't live up to my expectations and I wouldn't recommend it to those looking for a fast-paced and captivating fantasy adventure.

The Star-Touched Queen by Roshani Chokshi
4.0
"The Star-Touched Queen" is a beautifully written and intricately crafted fantasy novel. The story follows the journey of Maya, a princess who is cursed with a horoscope that promises a marriage of death and destruction. But when she is offered a chance to escape this fate and marry a mysterious, enigmatic stranger named Amar, Maya embarks on a dangerous adventure through the Otherworld, where she discovers the secrets of her past and the true nature of her destiny.
Chokshi's writing is lyrical and poetic, weaving a tapestry of vivid imagery and sensory details that transport the reader to a world of magic and wonder. Her characters are complex and multi-dimensional, with hidden depths and hidden agendas that keep the reader guessing until the very end.
While the plot can be slow at times and the pacing uneven, the book's strengths lie in its characters and the lush, imaginative world-building. Fans of fantasy and romance will find much to love in "The Star-Touched Queen." Overall, I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a captivating and enchanting read.

The Bourne Identity by Robert Ludlum
3.0
"The Bourne Identity" by Robert Ludlum is a fast-paced and action-packed thriller that kept me engaged from beginning to end. The plot follows a man who is found floating in the Mediterranean Sea with no memory of who he is or how he got there. As he tries to piece together his past, he discovers that he is a highly skilled and trained assassin, and must fight to survive against those who seek to eliminate him.
While the action and suspense were certainly entertaining, I found the character development to be lacking. The protagonist, Jason Bourne, is a bit of a one-dimensional character, with much of his personality and motivations left unexplored. Additionally, the romance subplot felt forced and underdeveloped and detracted from the overall tension and pace of the story.
In summary, "The Bourne Identity" by Robert Ludlum is a thrilling and fast-paced book that would be enjoyable for readers who like action-packed plots. However, those who are looking for more in-depth character development may find it lacking, and it is reflected in the book's 3-star rating.
