The writing was very beautiful without being over descriptive (which I like) and a compelling story. Thought it could have been a third the length and I would have gotten the point.

I felt very seen reading this book. Should be required reading for anyone who knows me.

I loved the writing in this book, I really felt the distress of the main character, and was especially impressed with how distant the fancy dress ball felt. I thought the author's choice to describe in detail fantasies the main character was having, whether good or annoying or terrifying, was a really effective tool for the reader to identify so strongly with the main character's feelings. I couldn't put the book down I needed to know what happened! I gave it 4 stars because I was slightly dissatisfied with the ending.

This book would be good for someone recently diagnosed with depression or exploring the possibility that they might have a mental illness, but as someone who has been depressed for years, I found most of this information to be a review.

Writing is succinct, clear, and punches you in the gut. Will reread to study flash nonfiction. I may up this to 5 stars later, but initially I am giving it 4 stars because I think I was expecting something else, so it disappointed me because of my expectation.
