Really wanted to like it but almost didn't finish. Cool idea and interesting world building, but too clunky for my liking. Also obviously some dated relationship dynamic since the book was written in the 60s. Overall just ok.

Whimsical and well written throughout. Solid balance of character development and plot. Happy little book that I'd recommend to fans of familiars and witches.

Loved some of Elle Adams other books especially the Wildwood series but could barely finish this one. The characters are meh and the book is very slow going. If it wasn't so short I likely would have abandoned it.

Lovable characters and classic woman empowering plot! All around enjoyable and well written book.

I love pirates and love Crichton, so I thought this was a no-brainer. While it is an ok read, it is really just that, OK. Neither the characters nor the plot have a lot of depth, and Lady Almont is a bit annoying despite her limited role. Also, it drug on a bit too long with things just continuously going wrong. Not a terrible book and has a lot of solid parts but overall just ok.

I enjoyed this book! It was funny, compelling, and unique! It was pretty light hearted and easy to read. It was a neat little package that wrapped up clean and was overall just and enjoyable book.

I think a lot of these reviews reflect people's love of Brandon Sanderson and their expectations of his writing style verse judging the book on its own merit.
