🎄🎄🎄 Christmas magic

“My best friend may not follow my audio erotica voice account. But his sister does.”

Thoughts
Who knew that a MMC who’s second job is as a spicy narrator was just the perfect set up.

Loved the tension between these two. Especially when he discovers that she is an active listener of his recordings. Whilst this was a novella, I don’t think it really got past the superficial romance, although we were told how desperately they loved each other. I just didn’t feel it, beyond their obvious chemistry.

That narration for her brother was an interesting choice (he sounded more Australian than English). Beyond that, I think this works well as an audiobook considering Cameron’s profession.

Although this is set at Christmas, it plays a very minor role in the story. More a short and spicy brothers best friend romance.

Always fall in love with Abby’s meet cutes - the build up to the relationship is always so swoony.

“I’ll set it right now….I wont ever ride one again”

Although I did enjoy this one, it isn’t on the same level as her more recent novels (this was actually her first novel). For me, the middle/ ending sort of let the story down. Lots of time jumps and not much romance.

Enjoyed exploring the complexities and challenges of realising with grief. Although, a few weeks into the relationship and felt that this was sort of an ignored.

“I always figured my first date after Brandon would be a painful milestone…but it wasn’t. Jason made is easy”

Definitely edged on Insta love but I wasn’t overly mad about it. Just wished that once they really got into their relationship we still go to see the cute moments.

Enjoyable read that had me desperately wanting them together officially get together.

One room. One bed. Five nights. And an admission hanging over us that the one time in his office can’t happen again.”

Really loved the little thoughtful gestures Wilder does for her throughout the story.

Found it got a little bit slow towards the end. But generally enjoyed the story.

“So I had a crush on Penelope. She wasn’t the one. I’d have known…”

Thoughts
Enjoyed this for the light hearted romance that it is. However, found parts a little too immature and some of the messaging a little too on the nose for my taste.

“Everyone knows the Kingman boys play better when they’re in love”

Enjoyed the friends to lovers aspect of this romance. Glad it wasn’t too much of a slow burn either. There were times though where decisions made by Penelope just seemed a bit too far fetched, suppose that added to some of the conflict in the story at least.

I was on a roll now. Words tubbling out of me like a broken dam. “Speaking of tall things, did you know giraffes have the same number of vertebras as humans…is this a foot long. I don’t think I can fit a foot long in my mouth”

This is book 4 in the Cocky Kingsman series. I haven’t read the previous books in the series and was generally able to follow along. May have benefited from a family tree at the beginning to assist with getting your head around all the siblings (or just read in order).

Listened to the audiobook and found the narration enjoyable to listen to.

“I need you to come to my sisters wedding in Indonesia and convincingly play the part of my very loving wife”

Thoughts
She was highly oblivious, at least at the beginning, doesn’t even recognise or even know the full name of the man she married.

“It’s surreal to be here with her after all this time…yet here I am having to improvise an intricate plan b at the eleventh hour with a muppet in human form as my co conspirator”

No marriage of convenience is complete with the pinnacle of tension, one bed.

The family dynamic is meshed up yet engaging and makes you really feel for West.

“But would your sibling choose you? You know they wouldn’t. Maybe they love you but they’re broken”

They love you. But they’re broken. They will choose money every time”

I am writing this review several months after finishing the book. I do remember enjoying it but it’s not one that I absolutely fell in love with.

One of my favourites in this festive novellas. Enjoyed the humour and how the meddling neighbours helped push these two together.

“Kiss. You’re under the mistletoe”

“It’s the moment when the girl in the teen romcom abandons her glasses…it’s the moment when her high school crush finally sees her for the beautiful 26 year old actress she is”.

Thoughts
Thought I was going to enjoy this more but found the main ‘conflict’ at the end fell a bit flat.

Loved the premise and especially some of the romance circumstances they found themselves in. Especially enjoyed the swing dancing night.

Sweet that they attempt to meet the other where they. Wasn’t as big of a fan of the final part of the book, just felt like communication could have played a larger role.

They were both interesting characters. Wish we had more of scenes daughter and a certain someone took back a comment/ clarified a comment they made about not looking for a stepparent.

There is something about a man in uniform and Everleigh repeatedly requires the asssitance of a firefighter who desperately wants to take her out, even if she is only in town for a month.

“I’ve got you”

The premise created some really sweet ‘we have to stop meeting like this’ moments. And also includes a nice level of spice for a novella.

“Big mistake. Huge. If she had thought he was beautiful standing in her grandmothers kitchen, he was breathtaking now”

Keen to read more by this author.

Interesting premise but kept on forgetting that they are meant to be in their 30s and not 20 years younger. The whole premise is really based on adults not making a move with some miscommunication thrown in.

It was sweet, and I do love a game of ‘never have I ever’. Just wanted a little more from the story.

“Even as a committed introvert, I took a month long job that requires daily crowd control…just to be near you”

Again, not enough to really work as a novella. Would have potentially worked better as a full story.
