Siege and Storm by Leigh Bardugo

The beginning of the book was a definition of 'meh'. We got AGAIN the same situation we had in book 1, Mal completely lost his personality, Alina was still a walking martyr and we got a chance to meet Nikolai who has problem with consent. Reading this book was the same type of frustration like with Hunger Games but with less charm. There was absolutely not a one character that wouldn't have problem with communication, who would show maturity and could be a moral hero of the story. Actually of all of them the Darkling is the best since we have so little of him. I don't know how I feel about the final scene. The battle description was entertaining and then solution was well thought. But the thinking is a problem. Alina overthinks EVERYTHING and it's just to much sometimes.

So I finished it. I didn't think it will be possible, but it happened. I will definitely say, I had way better time with this last book than with the previous one. Why? It seemed like the story itself closed very nicely. I wasn't expecting much, and the author gave me closure, brought the whole picture of the characters together, and she did it in not super dramatic but gentle, kind of predictable way. The way, that was still interesting. I think that each character got the best ending for themselves, but I wish I saw some more discussion about Mal's behavior from the previous part. It would be nice to see the redemption of the male, main character and discussion about how men can claim ownership of a woman. There was a little to no reflection on his part, and he just suddenly changed, which of course is a good thing, but I am missing this thought process he could've had. Maybe there is somewhere in a future a story to be published from his point of view. Wink, wink Twilight Saga. This is definitely not a series of the year. I still have in memory more of a Cruel Price than anything, but I am happy I could imagine how the future of the TV show could look like. And for that reason, I will for sure try out the Six of Crows duology.
