I was captivated by the premise of this book from the get go. I started at 9:30pm thinking I would read for 30 mins before bed.... I was up until 1am!!! I loved that it was set down in Tasmania, Kyle really painted the scenery so perfectly that I could visualise being there. I think it captured small town living/ mentalities, and the craziness of teenage girl antics extremely well. I liked the various point of views we got and I literally had no clue how this thriller/crime/mystery fiction book would end. Look, it’s probably not that scary but I was scared reading this

I really didn’t see that ending coming… but my husband guessed it after 2 mins of watching episode 2 of the show haha clearly I don’t read enough whodunnit books but I really did enjoy this!

I can’t in good conscience give this series any better than 3 star, I’ll give them all a 3 star haha because I’ve been sucked in but the writing is below average, I cringe repeatedly while reading but the romance and the magic system do make me want to keep reading! I can see why people love it but it’s just too cringe to be better than 3 stars

This book did not need to be 700 pages… like seriously, wth! Dunno if I’ll read book 7 knowing it’s also huge. I’ll happily read epic fantasy books this size but I didn’t come to this series for books this size

I love that this is a book that focused on a queer, black love story in the 19th century. It is beautifully written but I don’t quite have the words to describe my overall thoughts on the book but basically it was not enjoyable enough or enough of a page turner for me to give this a 4 or 5 star read. I just didn’t have enough emotional connection to our characters, I literally cry in class while teaching the American and Australian Civil Rights Movement, and some really f***ed up stuff happens at the end and I didn’t even cry, which is frankly bizarre for me... I’m a big weeper, I weep constantly. I also still have questions about the point of the prophets, and the other biblical references throughout the book, as to me they didn’t seem necessary to the plot, added nothing really, and could have been omitted completely. The ending left me confused and still don’t know what to make of it all. I think an English uni course needs to pick this up and analyse it, then someone needs to take the course and explain it to me haha but if you’ve read it and understood it please come talk to me
