A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas

Just messy. Changing characters completely so you can have the plot you want is lazy writing. Could have been a good series but I’m dropping it here.
That Time I Got Drunk and Saved a Demon by Kimberly Lemming

I really wanted to like this book. Really i kept making excuses for the plot holes, lack of world building, and the extremely out of place of modern slang (the word suss should never be used in a book Im sorry) but it was falling apart with each chapter.
There’s no tension, the characters are paper thin and simply seem to be an excuse for a self insert fic with a sexy demon man. Also please, using the word cunt in sex scenes just was a complete turn off.
I finished it because it was an easy read but please us woman of color deserve a full fleshed fantasy book, not a book formed around its smut.

The Proposal by Jasmine Guillory
Officially the first book on my dnf list this year. What was the actual point of this story? Boring and the writer had no idea how to write the male point of view. Would have better without changing perspectives and giving us a diversity lesson every page.
When No One Is Watching by Alyssa Cole

An amazing take on the issue of gentrification. I would recommend it! The only short coming is the pacing. A lot of set up was necessary, but sometimes felt like the author was front loading facts to push the agenda of the book.
The build up led to a rather underwhelming climax. I would have happily read a longer book to have more of the big secret explained/explored.
Overall I love this authors books and was happy to read something that wasn’t romance centric from them!
