in this last book of the trilogy, i’ve really grown to hate all the main characters. previously i only dislike alyssa a little because she’s seemingly just so fucking dumb, and i fucking hated kane because he was so toxic during their separation. i loved gage in the previous book.
but now i’m just sad because love really blinded and turned him to the worse path, which was fueled by his evil of a mother. i like chaz the fairy duster. idk how i feel about him and amy though (i’m leaning towards meh & ew). i was so pissed at first at alyssa because i thought it was gage, but thank god the prophecy really did meant kane. and don’t get me started on the plot twist bomb that kane is also a freya-like being. holy shit.
i love the last couple chapters.
i wish the author gave dragona & damon more ‘screentime’, because this made them seem not that powerful (or smart, really).
gage my beloved… my heart still aches for him. i’m so happy thad is actually still alive.
i love epilogues like in here where the story is tied neatly with a pretty little bow.

First of all, fuck the step sibling twist trope. Literally traumatizing. I would rate this book higher if that trope doesn’t exist here.

The MC is a little bit more annoying because she’s dumb. And I wish authors would just give us what we want and gift us the poly ending we deserve after an annoying (to say the least) love triangle. I do love the kind of reverse harem thing going on though. Also a nice excuse to imagine the prettiest people as the characters by having all supernatural creatures be hella beautiful.
The world of deadly beauties sucked me in and I couldn’t put the book down. The lores, characters, drama (relationship, family), I love everything about them.
Just a bit of a warning though, it kinda feels like the MC is cheating because she’s just kissing (& more, let’s be honest here) with any male in close proximity to her, althewhile having inner conflict about it every time she could. Like girl, pick a side. Be slutty or be faithful.
Also, why the fuck would you even consider going back to Kane after all the shit he gave you when he was ‘hurt’? That was borderline abusive and most definitely toxic but because of a ‘bond’ (that’s already broken at that point) you just keep going back to him??? Just because he said sorry doesn’t mean he wasn’t a dick. Choose the dutiful man who protects you despite everything (and is definitely the hotter one anyway).

As usual, C. M. Owens (also published as S. T. Abby & Kristy Cunning), managed to perfectly combined cliché tropes in a way that doesn’t seem forced. Add her humor and favor of spice, this series seems to be the second one of hers (the other is Mindf*ck) that has won its spot amongst my top series list. I will forever regret not finding her books sooner. RIP Owens.

Not a bad read, quite enjoyable and light with a little twist on vampires i’ve never seen before (and i’ve read a lot about them). Girlboss solidarity.

In the beginning this book feels just like any other starting-high-school YA fiction. The first few chapters of getting to know the characters that were a bit annoying, which of course consisted of 3 persons, the non-makeup-user-who-couldn’t-care-less-about-her-appearance MC, her quirky (in this case, astrology-crazed) feminine best friend, and the additional know-it-all male best friend. The circle is completed when we’re introduced to the loner-but-adored-by-all FL, with his curly blond hair and piercing brown eyes.
Then the lores started pouring in, the basics, and the other supporting characters. Near the middle, there were some MC character growth (thank god) and the fantasy side of the book shines through.
But the last third of the book is where it’s at. I couldn’t put the book down, I just want to keep figuring out the plot and possible twists (and I guessed some,
like Curtis being sight-blind, and the explosion has something to do with the release of the “insivible dragon”.
) and my theories started growing (
like her mom did a death curse to banish the darkhel and that’s why she died, who the Pure One is (her dad? could be if her mom wanted to protect him so bad she did a death curse. garry lewis because he’s mentioned a lot and that’s got to be for a reason, the missing professor that she was hunting to find out more about her mom’s crystal necklace, or even the principal.
). I also really like how the reveals goes full circle, like
the necklace being a soul box key (and the fact that Brenda told them that), curtis’ backstory especially the one about his brother and the kraken-something elemental, how she could see the darkhel is because some debris of the gate explosion got into her eye (that’s why it keeps watering and hurting everytime the darkhel is close, and her eyes keeps ringing / hearing static (kinda like hearing an explosion? idk), etc
.

I like books that can keep me guessing without it being too obvious. Makes me crave for more. It also drops the reveals at the right moments. One thing is though the author keeps writing whole dialogues in italic and like babe we don’t need that. It was a bit annoying in the beginning to middle.

It’s not something amazing. Didn’t really change my life. But it was still a great read nonetheless, & I’m glad for the epilogue.

The perfect book to read inbetween your heavier, high-fantasy books. The perfect combination of humor and magic. Though sadly, no epilogue. Still, 10/10 would probably read again.
Some might say the ending feels rushed / is just the easy way to wrap things up in a pretty little bow, but I think it suits the book just fine. It’s not a serious high-fantasy magic-lore-dump book.
