Mention of: racism, slavery, murder, child abuse, bullying, and child labor.

This was a cute historical read where Charlotte is determined to do whatever it takes to get out of her betrothal.

Quick and easy read that gives us a sweet love story, a mystery, and a whole lot of hijinks. ^^

Ngl...I wasn't happy with the buildup with all the relationships...I understand the final decision but I think more work could have gone into showing the connection from the start...because with what was shown I think the one for a perfect HEA was a much different choice...

I've never read this author before, that I know of, so I'm really hoping this shifts into a why choose...even though I have a feeling that's not where this is headed...

Did I spend all day just reading through this Dreame novel? Yes, yes I did.

Though there are a lot of editing issues...I really enjoyed the idea of the story. With a good editor I could see this book easily becoming mainstream popular. Now that I've payed $20 in points to read the first book...I think I'll wait until April when the 2nd book will have a physical edition on amazon 😅 If I'm dropping the money I'd rather know, for a fact, that most of the money is going to the author.

Total honesty...the first few chapters had me thinking about dnf'ing...but I decided to push through a bit more and started to get a little more invested in Dess and the story.

A lot of mystery surrounds Dess and her upbringing but its giving Dark Angel vibes...trained from a young age to be the perfect assassin...

Still not fully invested but I am intrigued so I plan to start book 2 soon.

This book had so much potential...the first few chapters had me so invested and then all of a sudden it was like the book was on superspeed.

I really wish, instead of a short novella, this book had been given more time and made a full length novel.

Like I said, the first few chapters were awesome, I was invested in the story and loving the leading lady...then pretty much as soon as the spice happened...all of a sudden it was like the author was in a hurry to finish the story...and elements that should have been stretched out were hitting at hyper speed.
