A very dangerous man was released from prison and now he’s making his way to the small town looking for them. The town is build upon secrets and more secrets. Can the vicar figure everything out and keep her daughter and herself safe from the dangers within?

Oh man, what a tremendous book. I started reading it and I was hooked right away. I mean, how can you not? The description alone is intriguing. It’s packed with twists and action and creepyness and spookyness. Definitely my kind of book. That final twist left me on edge. I did not see it coming. The setting is perfect, the writing exquisite. I think Tudor did an amazing job with this one. To say that I am now a fan, is an understatement. I will definitely be reading more of her work very soon.

It’s 1982.
Vivian Delaney escape from home to be an actress in New York.
On the way there, she stopped at the lonely Sun Down Motel in the town of Fell.
In there, the owner offers her a job on the spot.
Jackpot, right? WRONG!
Immediately, weird stuff starts happening.
Strangely, even if Viv is scared, she decided to stay in Fell.
She takes interest in the odd unsolved murder cases that the small town has.
A few months later… Viv vanishes in the middle of her Night Shift and is never seen again.

It’s 2017.
Carly Kirk is Vivian Delaney’s niece.
An odd child herself, Carly has always been interested in the disappearance of her aunt.
Her mom passes away from cancer and her memories of Viv died with her.
No one I’m the family wanted to talk about Viv. Her mom always got upset whenever Viv’x name was brought up.
Carly decides to visit Fell and see what she can find out by herself.
In the strangest coincidences ever, she ends up living in the same apartment that her aunt used to live.
She also finds a job at the Sun Down Motel with her aunts old shift.
Carly starts experiencing the same oddities her aunt once experienced.
And she is determined to figure out what is happening and of course, what happened back in 1982.

No one is ready for the twists and turns Simone St. James will bring to the table…

This right here, had the right amount of everything that I needed for a Halloween read.
It has the thrill of a mystery.
The spooks of apparitions.
Family secrets.
Serial killers.
Everything.

Recommended 100%.

Ay Dios mío, mi corazoncito!

Let me tell you que si me gustó mucho “You had me at hola”, “A lot like adiós” me robó el corazón. I need to do this in Spanglish sólo porque si. How can I not?

Michelle y Gabe tienen historia. They were childhood best friends hace una vez. They were locos for each other and being típicos adolescentes, never said anything. They haven’t seen each other in 9 años, desde que Gabe se fue de New York and abandoned his family and friends to pursue his dreams. Ser parte de una familia hispana is not easy my friends. Some of us have expectativas que cumplir or negotiate with our family. That was the case for Gabe. His family would not see things his way y el los resentía por eso. No le importó dejar behind the girl he loved just to get away from his familia.

Now things have made it possible for them to work together. They are both successful at what they do y juntos serían imparables. Cuando Gabe se contacta with Michelle, she just can’t believe it’s him. To her own surprise she accepts his deal but she has unas cuantas cláusulas que negociar. In order for them to work together, el tiene que quedarse con ella nada mas y nada menos que en New York. The place he swore he would never go back to. El acepta. Las cosas entre ellos están sensitive. Neither knows how far the can test each other. Gabe is afraid to see his family and Michelle is afraid of loving him una vez más. They both have problems they need to work on. They need to forgive each other y hacer las paces. They just weren’t counting en lo candente que las cosas were going to get…

Rory’s family is small on members but big on traditions. When Rory’s aunt Sophia gets diagnosed with Cancer, Rory takes over the family’s business, abandoning her hopes and dreams to take care of the family. A Mexican truck that features Aunt Sophia’s best Mexican recipes. There’s only one problem… Rory doesn’t know how to cook. After aunt Sophia’s passing, Rory ends up with the responsibility of taking care of her cousin Hannah and making sure that the family business doesn’t fall on bankruptcy.

Our main character is a lonely one. Sure, she has family that cares about her and love her deeply, but she can’t lie to herself. She wants more. She wants to meet someone she can have a deep connection. Someone she can lean on when things get hard. She decides to sign up to a dating app. The rules of this app are simple. It matches you with people within a 60 mile radius. You cannot share any details that can identify you until you feel ready or the app prompts you to swap phone number. She matches with StrongerMan99 (corny, I know). She definitely wasn’t expecting to enjoy the conversations with him so much. They begin to develop a friendship with some flirting here and there. They confide on each other. Ask for advice and share some wisdom. It’s really something special.

One beautiful day, one the most prominent bachelor’s Modest, Texas can provide comes to the food truck to ask for cooking lessons. He is willing to pay for those lessons. That makes Rory stop and consider. The food truck definitely needs all the financial help. She agrees to TEACH him some tricks. And so the tricks and lies begin… Jude, the prominent bachelor, decides to quit his dad’s Law Firm, open a food truck and sign up for the town’s food fest that will put him in competition against Salsa Street, Rory’s truck. She feels betrayed and soon forgets that she also lied when she agreed to the lessons. One thing is for sure, they have no clue that they are who they pour their heart out later on the app chat.

Can they clear the air? Can they forgive each other? Can they overcome the obstacles that keep piling up and that seems to pull them together and also separate them at the same time?

This was a very cute read. I could’ve done it without Rory’s constant doubt against Jude, her mood swings and obviously her hate for cilantro.

And, Will she get to them on time to prevent the worst from happening?

Phew. What a roller coaster, this book. I really enjoyed reading the fourth book of this series. I have not read the previous ones and I feel like you don’t need to read them in order to be able to get through it.

I did felt like there were some repetitive sentences and scenarios where our main character were just repeating the same things. It’s very subtle, so it’s not a big deal. I’m just picky when it comes to conversations in books or when the point of view changes and we read the same thing worded differently.

There’s a lot to unpack in this book. There were some part that were so well put together that made you consider looking at everything from another perspective or make you look the other way when you already thought you knew who the culprit was. I like when authors are able to introduce a sentence or scenario that makes you look not as hard in a character’s direction.

I honestly didn’t think the culprit was who it turned out to be. It caught me a bit off guard. I was suspicious of how everything was developing at the end but still gasped a little when it all unfolded. I still have questions and I want to read the first books to know about Morgan. I think that the group of friends were still way too attached to what happened 5 years ago. It didn’t make sense that they would still be talking about a high school crush the way it was involved in the story. Part of me was saying “Girl, get over it!”. Didn’t even seem like a serious detective novel a some point, but overall it was a really enjoyable read.

If I say that I did not like this story, I would be lying. The plot of the book is a very interesting one and an unfamiliar one, at least to me. I have read books about mother looking for answers after the disappearance or sudden death of their child. What I have not read yet, until now, is a mother and professional in the healthcare area, with a good relationship with her son, seemly unaware of the hardships her son is enduruing and she comes to find out when the worst already happen.

That is the story of Ruth Bennet. She receives a voicemail from her son Thomas DeLuca, asking her to please visit him because he is meant to show up at court to be sentenced. He tells her to not worry, that non of it is true but he has been accused of stealing drugs from the hospital. You see, Tom is newly qualified doctor. Dr. Bennet leaves everything and shows up at the court as expected and sits to wait for her son. He never comes… His lawyer gives her the terrible news, that her son Tom was found earlier in the morning and that unfortunately he has died.

To say that Ruth Bennet was heartbroken it doesn’t do justice to what this mother was feeling.

Four months later she receives a letter asking her to please go back to the town where everything happened and to please undo what it has been done. Basically asking her to uncover the truth about Tom’s sudden death. Ruth gave it a lot of thought and some things just didn’t match. No one asked too many questions, only the police, and they obviously asked the pertinent questions to be able to make the arrest.

Ruth goes back to the town and she was not ready for everything she uncovered trying to clear her son’s name.

What I love the most about this story is seeing what a desperate mother is willing to do to protect her own, in this case the memory of Tom. In her heart she knew that Tom was innocent. What the police was telling her did not fit in what she already knew. What his coworkers were telling her was also a different story. Too many different point of views of the same person, you can say that Ruth was beginning to get a very clear picture of what was Tom’s true personality and character.

The things she was willing to do, putting herself and career in danger because she just needed to know the truth. WOW. Bravo. It takes more than love and courage.

There is also another point of view in the story, the point of view of Rosie Carlyle… but I won’t say anymore to leave you wanting to know more. Her side of the story makes up for the wholes in Ruth’s POV and definitely adds to the suspense and introduces the good ol’ doubt about everything you think you know. It is a very good story. It ties everything nicely at the end and it does not leave you with questions.

I give it ★★★★.5

After escaping her abusive father and leaving behind everything that reminded her of her loving mother, Danni has go back home one more time.

After many years, Danni has to go back home to put to rest the body of the man that tormented her for so long. Her past is tinted with awful memories of what she had to endure growing up. The things that were done to her, were inhumane to say the least.

Her once loving father turned into a monster after her mother committed suicide in the farm’s mill. He abused her in every sense of the word. To say that she was not interested in going back to that awful place… well it was the understatement of the century.

Her dear husband had other plans though. He thought that if she went back to the farm, one more time and faced her true fears, she would be able to overcome them and leave everything behind once and for all. He had the brilliant idea of staying in the awful house because he was sure that that would help Danni.

As soon as the family of four settles in, weird and scary things begin to happen. Danni’s son, Alex swears that he saw a scary old lady with a black smile. The poor kid couldn’t even begin to imagine what was about to unfold. His sister Leah, after deciding that she wanted to take a shower, sees someone, a man, standing by the door, looking at her with a predatory smile.

Guess what? Dear old Jon (the stupid husband) thinks the kids just have an overactive imagination and they just need time to get use to the spooky house.

The bastard will come to regret ever suggesting going to that hell of a house.

As the story develops, we learn what truly happen when Danni was growing up. We can see the true evil that lurks inside the house. That evil that took her mom’s life and immediately after took hold of her father and never let him go.

The things that were done to her broke my heart in a million pieces and I had to stop reading, regroup and then continue. I was horrified beyond words.

I don’t even have to say how much I hated the husband, but I will. Everything that happened to him, was well deserved in my opinion. I hated his mentality and the way he wanted to see everything either black or white. Everything has a reasonable explanation my butt! There are things that science cannot explain. Things that we cannot (and I don’t think will ever) comprehend. We just need to accept that and move on. The fact that he was willing to put his family in danger just to teach them a lesson and prove a point, pissed me off to a whole new level. He did not deserve them.

And that ending… oh Lord. That ending. I get that it’s a horror story, that’s the reason why I wanted to read it, but COME ON!!! Did it really needed to end like that???? That kid had enough on his plate! He did not needed anything else.

The story overall had the right amount of spooks I wanted but it also had the ability to make me so mad I wanted to punch someone.
