The Demonic by Lee Mountford
3.0
After escaping her abusive father and leaving behind everything that reminded her of her loving mother, Danni has go back home one more time.
After many years, Danni has to go back home to put to rest the body of the man that tormented her for so long. Her past is tinted with awful memories of what she had to endure growing up. The things that were done to her, were inhumane to say the least.
Her once loving father turned into a monster after her mother committed suicide in the farm’s mill. He abused her in every sense of the word. To say that she was not interested in going back to that awful place… well it was the understatement of the century.
Her dear husband had other plans though. He thought that if she went back to the farm, one more time and faced her true fears, she would be able to overcome them and leave everything behind once and for all. He had the brilliant idea of staying in the awful house because he was sure that that would help Danni.
As soon as the family of four settles in, weird and scary things begin to happen. Danni’s son, Alex swears that he saw a scary old lady with a black smile. The poor kid couldn’t even begin to imagine what was about to unfold. His sister Leah, after deciding that she wanted to take a shower, sees someone, a man, standing by the door, looking at her with a predatory smile.
Guess what? Dear old Jon (the stupid husband) thinks the kids just have an overactive imagination and they just need time to get use to the spooky house.
The bastard will come to regret ever suggesting going to that hell of a house.
As the story develops, we learn what truly happen when Danni was growing up. We can see the true evil that lurks inside the house. That evil that took her mom’s life and immediately after took hold of her father and never let him go.
The things that were done to her broke my heart in a million pieces and I had to stop reading, regroup and then continue. I was horrified beyond words.
I don’t even have to say how much I hated the husband, but I will. Everything that happened to him, was well deserved in my opinion. I hated his mentality and the way he wanted to see everything either black or white. Everything has a reasonable explanation my butt! There are things that science cannot explain. Things that we cannot (and I don’t think will ever) comprehend. We just need to accept that and move on. The fact that he was willing to put his family in danger just to teach them a lesson and prove a point, pissed me off to a whole new level. He did not deserve them.
And that ending… oh Lord. That ending. I get that it’s a horror story, that’s the reason why I wanted to read it, but COME ON!!! Did it really needed to end like that???? That kid had enough on his plate! He did not needed anything else.
The story overall had the right amount of spooks I wanted but it also had the ability to make me so mad I wanted to punch someone.
