This was the first work of James Baldwin that I have read and I found it absolutely incredible. His writing style kept me captivated the whole way through and, of course, his messages are very powerful. I will definitely be reading more of his works.

I found the middle really dragged on and that sometimes the inner dialogue was so stereotypical that is was uninteresting. I really liked the last 30 pages but everything else was lacking

Funny and of course is better to watch than read /read whilst listening.

5 stars because I’m happy that it was a happy ending which is so rare and special in classic literature pertaining to anything „taboo“ like this

I absolutely devoured this book. Such an quick, interesting read. I found the ending quite rushed and I wish it was more action packed than is was but overall it was a very enjoyable read and very significant in the genre of horror.

This was a nice, easy read with an interesting and meaningful story. My main qualm with it is that I did not enjoy the writing style or at least not in this translation. I thought I was very plain and the storytelling was often all over the place or repetitive. The female characters are often also very stereotypical and sometimes flat, especially in the first story, I think there is a better way to start the book than that. However, the second story “Husband and Wife” and the last story “Mother and Child” were both very touching. The first was by far the worst and the third was good but didn’t touch me like the others.
