I really enjoyed reading this, the atmosphere V. E Schwab creates, is as always incredible and the idea so interesting. Parts of the plot reminded me very much of ‘Jane Eyre’ and also dancings of ‘The Invisible Life of Addie La Rue’ but more thematically and character wise than plot. I do feel that the ending was a little but rushed and that the story could have been much deeper if given the chance.

Nothing really entranced me with this play, I enjoyed it more in the first two acts and I became more disinterested as it went on. Don’t misunderstand me, however, it wasn’t necessarily boring or badly written, it just missed the mark for me. Particularly, because the characters lacked depth and the plot was all over the place (which I don’t typically mind too much, however, it wasn’t made up by depth in character or exceptional writing). Especially considering it was written later in his career, it seemed to me like something that would have been an early work of his, when he was still figuring it all out.

Truly a masterpiece of literature. The writing is beautiful and evocative. My only qualm with it is the unnecessary amount (meaning adding nothing to the plot or characters) of racist tirades.

What a phenomenal read. I’m truly blown away. This was exactly what I was looking to read, now and always. It is the perfect mix of adventure and tragedy, beauty and disgust, of storytelling and beautiful prose. I was not expecting to like this book nearly as much I did. Truly cannot recommend it enough.
