Romeo and Juliet Keep Their Eyes on the Prize: A Dwayne Finnegan Novel by Richard Engling

Romeo and Juliet: Keep their eyes on the prize by Richard Engling is part of the Dwayne Finnegan Series. This is the second book I’ve read by this author and it was just as good as the first. Speaking of the first book I definitely recommend that you read that one before this one. I really enjoyed the plot and the new craziness that ensues. The descriptions of Chicago I thought were spot on and it was very easy to envision all the different locations. What I like about this book is how it feels realistic and true to the characters met in the first book. There were times that smiled from all of their antics. I’ve never really been to the theater but still found great enjoyment reading this book. It's just such a colorful and lively read. I will mention that this book does move at a slower pace but once it hooks you, you’ll be fully in. Can’t wait to see what’s next for the characters!

Of Darkness and Ruination by Rachel Fallon

4.0

Of Darkness and Ruination by Rachel Fallon is book one in The Star Queen Chronicles. This is the first book I’ve read by this author and oh my what a good read. The cover is what originally drew my attention but once I read the blurb I was fully in and I couldn’t wait to download. But just be warned it is on the longer side so be prepared to set some time aside because once you start you might not want to stop. I had an overall great time reading this book, I thought the book descriptions were done well. I could clearly imagine the world and characters easily. I also thought the characters were great and I did find myself feeling for most of them. Asteria once I warmed up to her I thought she was a strong and sassy woman. I found myself really digging Calix… can’t wait to see more in the next book. The chemistry between the characters is great and I really enjoyed the tension. Don’t even get me started on Cyrus. I will mention two things: first to check your trigger warnings to be on the safe side. The second is this book does end in a cliffhanger so be prepared for that. There are times in this book that I thought were a bit repetitive (could just be me) or things were over explained (if that makes sense). In the end there were more positives for me as I thought it was an enjoyable romantasy read. I’m looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

Little Etheldreda Riding Hood by Dakota Cockaday

Little Etheldreda Riding Hood by Dakota Cockaday is book two in the Wild Hare Ranch Gentlemen's Series. I love reading books by this author because they are always unique and an absolute pleasure to read. I love reading a really well done fantasy/retellings/paranormal romance and this book has all the ingredients.  This is a quick fast paced read that has a really good instant love storyline. I read this in a matter of hours. It clocks in at under 200 pages but don’t let that fool you this is packed full of absolute adorableness. There were times my heart really went out to the character of Red; the amount of times she was lied to was just so incredibly sad. I was so happy to read her finding out the truth. But I absolutely loved how Zach and Red were together. She’s so strong and he just such a sweet guy. I thought they balanced each other well. But hands down my favorite part of this whole book was Dolly. This was well written and I just really enjoyed everything about this read. It was well written and had a steady plot that held my attention throughout. Two thumbs way up.

Bed of Roses (A Curvy Girl Dark Romance) by D.V. Fischer

Bed of Roses by DV Fischer is book one in the  Bouquet of Lies Duet. When I read the book description I was immediately hooked from that alone but then again I’m immediately drawn to any story involving a curvy girl. Oh my gosh, this story was incredible! Absolutely hands down loved it! My kindle didn’t get a break with me and this book. This literally had everything I could have wanted… an interesting storyline, suspense, thrills, twists and had a fast paced feel to it. I loved Teegan and Cole so much; I loved how their dynamic was and how they are with one another. One of my favorite things is how Cole got Teegan to stop talking at one point. (Read the book, I totally laughed when he did this.) Speaking of emotions it had me laughing, tearing up and just some swoon worthy moments. I’m really digging how this story is being told and how everything g is being described. At times I felt like a fly on the wall, it was great. But that ending of the book really had me on the edge of my seat. Highly looking forward to book two. This was a great and experience and I definitely recommend it.

The Land Where Dreams Descend by Rowan E. Knight

5.0

The Land where Dreams Descend by Rowan E Knight is the first book I’m reading by this author. I was originally drawn to the cover of the book which in turn led me to read the book description. Needless to say it captured my attention and I’m so glad it did. I really liked this book a bunch, I flew through the pages; my poor kindle didn’t catch a break. I’m a huge fan of fantasy and of fairytales and this book captures that feeling so well. There’s no spice in this tale but to be honest that really just adds to the appeal of the whole storyline. This was just a magical read for me, I don’t know how else to describe it. This was a truly unique tale with a hint of beauty and the beast vibes. The writing was incredibly well done, the plot was interesting and addictive but the worldbuilding and descriptions were just breathtaking. I loved the character of Seraphine. She was full of sass, intelligence and she had such a relatability to her. I really enjoyed how I was able to feel so many different things as the characters did. How it felt like I was a part of this world. Plus it has my all time favorite trope of enemies to lovers. So that fact really added to my enjoyment. This story will definitely stick with me as it made such an impression. Two thumbs way up and I really do recommend you check out this book. It really is an amazing journey.

Breathing You In by Christina Maria

4.0

Breathing You In by Christina Maria is book one in The Courtlynd Series. This is the first book I’m reading by this author, after reading the blurb I was really interested in this story. I read this book in a day, and really enjoyed it. I will mention checking your trigger warnings just to be on the safe side. I really liked the pacing of the book, there’s some dark themes and events that Winter our FMC has experienced. At times I felt my heart crack with some of the things she has experienced but at the same time I loved her character. When it comes to Carsten he’s a playboy until he meets Winter. I really liked his character but I kind of wish his backstory was delved into a little more. Might just be a me thing but it doesn’t detract from the story at all. This has to me a great blend of sweet, savory and spicy all mixed in making it a fun fast paced read. I really enjoyed the chemistry between Winter and Carsten and how their dynamic was done. The characters were just all so relatable and I really liked that as well. It definitely took my emotions for a stroll while reading certain scenes. Overall I really enjoyed the writing, plot and descriptions of everything… Will be looking out for more from this author.

Never Tear Us Apart by D.M. Simmons

5.0

Never Tear Us Apart by D.M Simmons is hands down on my favorites list. I’m a bit bias when it comes to this author because I love every book that she has written but this one is in its own ballpark. When I first heard about this book I was counting down the days until I could read it and now that I have I can say it was absolutely incredible. I read this book in a day, I couldn’t put it down. If I’m honest I forgot about responsibilities and just kept reading. (I thankfully have a very understanding fiancé) Not only does it have my favorite trope of all time… enemies to lovers but it also has other great ones as well. For example: stepbrother, second chance and it’s got a baseball theme. This book gave me such a nostalgic feel as it’s set in the 90’s with the cassette players, the bands, beaches just everything gave me such a great feel. This book has everything you could want… angst, drama, suspense, mystery, romance and of course spice. I mean my emotions were on a rollercoaster throughout. But hands down my favorite had to be Ellery and Cruz. The tension and chemistry between them were fire, I’m surprised smoke didn’t rise from between the pages. It was just on another level how amazing it was. At times I wanted to either fan myself or keep gripping my kindle with my fingertips. This was so well done and the plot was not only interesting but is able to hook you so quickly. But I expect nothing less with D.M Simmons writing abilities. I cannot wait for more! Highly recommend this book and author.

Shattered Soul by Jess Peters

4.0

Shattered Soul by Jess Peters is book two in the Riverside Docks Crew. I think I’ve said this in every review I’ve left for this author but I enjoy each and every book I’ve read. The same can be said of this one as well, I read this book in one sitting. I just had to see where everything was leading too. But I will mention to check your content warnings to be on the safe side…. It’s dark and it’s violent. Also you must read the books in order, they are not standalones. Still loving the character of Cass. I will say I did get annoyed (sorta) with the character of Chris; especially since he knows how Frankie is/acts… he’s a possessive man. This is a why choose romance but it’s not like a standard one which everyone is A-ok sharing. I like the realistic feeling of people working up to that point… to come around to the idea. I also thought the tension was super well done between all the different crews. This book also ramped up the drama, the angst and of course the spiciness. I will warn you this book does end on a cliffhanger, I need to read the next book. I’m really looking forward to continuing this series as Jess Peters is just expanding more and more with each book. I can’t wait to see what’s in store for these characters. Overall the book is well written and the plot is moving at a steady/quick pace that is keeping me hooked. I would definitely recommend checking out this author.

Shadow Rising by Georgia C. Leigh

Go to review page

5.0

Shadow Rising by Georgia C Leigh is book three in the Shadows and Light Series. To say I was eagerly awaiting this book would be an understatement. I’m not only a huge fan of the author but this series as a whole. Everything about this world that Georgia C Leigh has created is fabulous. I will give you fair warning that the book is long and you will lose time when you are reading it. I personally lost hours because I could not put my kindle down… it definitely gave me the one more chapter syndrome. I honestly loved this whole book start to finish but I will give you a warning that it’s not a standalone, you must read all the books in order. I also think that this book may be my personal favorite. ( so far because I say that each time the author releases a new book) This story once again has taken me on an emotional rollercoaster… and the times I gripped my kindle and sat on the edge of my seat were great. This story has everything from betrayal, to love, heartbreak, magic and adventure. But the twists and turns that were woven into the book were just masterful. One of the things I love about the book is how this world just continues to grow and expand with both the characters I know/love and the ones newly introduced. (Haven and Ryker are still my faves though) This is just an exceptionally great tale that I can get lost in… it’s written beautifully and the descriptions from the people to the world are so well done it’s easy to imagine yourself within the pages. Another of my favorite things about this book is how well the emotions of the book are written… you can feel them in every word that is written. I can’t wait for the next book to continue this amazing tale. Georgia C Leigh is a phenomenal author as is this series, I can’t begin to express how much I recommend this series.

Twisted Honor-Special Edition by Annalynn Nicole

4.0

Twisted Honor by AnnaLynn Nicole is book one in the O'Sullivan Series. This author is one of my go to’s for a good mafia story. My heart usually cracks a bit when reading AnnaLynn’s books and this one was no different. I read this book in about a day, I didn’t want to put it down. I will mention to check your trigger warnings to be on the safe side. The writing as usual was great as was the plot but what really got me was I could feel the emotions of the characters as I read. There were so many times my heart went out to Cillian and Bia. Both went through so much in their lives. My emotions were on a rollercoaster during this book, there were times I wished I could reach through my kindle to give a character a shake or two. The character I felt I could relate to the most was Bia; it felt like she was just a pawn in a crappy family. I felt that so much. I also don’t want to give any spoilers but this was a really great read! I know I can’t wait for the next book. If you’re a big mafia romance fan then this book is definitely for you as is this author. Two thumbs up.
