Cute. Had to resist giving it 5 stars because there’s nothing wrong with it, it just can’t hold a candle to other actual 5 star books.

Very interesting and very beautiful. This is a great book to have around and pick up whenever you want a little something to read. But it is also just an incredible piece of literature to consumer whenever possible. I personally have nothing to critique about it, an overall wonderful book.

The first two thirds of the book was quite slow and then the last third is incredibly quick. Definitely a bit disturbing at times. I would say the book kept me intrigued the whole time. I wanted to know where the story was going, which helped me through the slower beginning.

I’ll preface this by saying by the end I quite enjoyed the book. However, I will say reading this as an American in 2024 I was
horrified by the various things Solitaire does, and struggled to see any of it as a harmless. I spent most of my time trying to remind myself that this is just a YA novel and wasn’t going to turn into some horror story of school violence.
I also didn’t really vibe with how everything was handled. I know it is influenced by Tori’s POV but I was very conflicted by how little people seemed to care about things, and how oblivious the adults seemed. Overall though, I think it’s a good book, and I appreciate the story that was told. I think it will be a book I think about and appreciate, but not one I would reread.

It’s still weird that they’re high schoolers, but I understand that high school is a good plot device. The story is pretty good, but the early flaws in the romantic relationships continue to make it hard for me to fully love them.
