Emily Wilde's Map of the Otherlands by Heather Fawcett
5.0
Absolutely entrancing from start to finish - what a delight to see more of Emily and Wendell, to meet more important people in their lives, and to revisit some old friends from the first book! An absolutely perfect winter read.
The Boyfriend Candidate by Ashley Winstead
4.0
A lot of fun! Alexis is looking for a one-night stand (for the first time ever) and picks up Logan at a hotel bar. They're then pictured evacuating the hotel during a fire, turns out he's a politician with a reputation as a womanizer, they must fake-date, et cetera, et cetera. This was my first Ashley Winstead, and I did have a good time! There was a little too much nonsense for it to be a real 5 star read for me - for the life of me, I cannot figure out why he needed to have the background to give him a British accent (nor can I figure out why his mother needed to specifically be Belarusian, nor what a Texas-British accent hybrid might be), and I thought the love triangle plot was so unnecessary and poorly worked in. Who slept where at the bachelorette party???? I must know!! . Still, just a real delight and right up my alley, politically.

What a thrill - every piece of this book is important and thought out. I loved learning more about Lucky's coven members and watching their relationships grow. I do think I would have liked this a bit more if I'd read it with my eyeballs and not on audio, but god I hope there's another book to come here!

The League of Gentlewomen Witches by India Holton
5.0
I definitely didn't quite get the first book in this series - I'm not a huge fantasy reader and I couldn't fully picture everything going on and was distracted by side characters. But I read this installment on audio and WOW did it go a lot better for me! I often find that a book with a really dry sense of humor reads much funnier on audio, which was true here, and having the background of the first book obviously made this one smoother. So funny, so witty, so many sneaky pop culture references, I loved it. I'll definitely be reading the third on audio, too!
Tastes Like Shakkar by Nisha Sharma
3.5
I love Nisha's writing, and it was so fun to be back in this big, entertaining group of friends. Something about this story just didn't quite get there for me, and usually I'm a real sucker for an enemies to lovers forced proximity for our friends kind of deal. I thought Bunty was a little immature, but Bobbi is the kind of type-A uber-competent kind of person that I aspire to be. Well worth the wait, and I'm so excited for the next book!

For the Love of April French by Penny Aimes
4.5
just so beautiful - tender and warm and inclusive; penny does such interesting things with chapter length and head hopping and denial. i did find the timeline to be confusing at points (see: head hopping) and we sometimes got a bit bogged down in detail (i don't think we need to know everyone's hair style) but wow i would read a million more books from her.
A Lady's Guide to Fortune-Hunting by Sophie Irwin
4.75
What an absolute delight - witty, fresh, fun, wry. Kitty and James were so biting together, and their siblings were so good they would have stolen the book with a lesser writer. I do think I would have found this slow to read physically, but as an audiobook, this was a ball.
Raiders of the Lost Heart by Jo Segura
4.0
An incredibly fun debut from Jo Segura, perfect for fans of Indiana Jones, The Lost City, or Something Wilder!
Dr. Corrie Mejía's dream is to find the archaeological legacy of her purported ancestor, Chimalli - so her irritation when she arrives to a dig to do just that only to realize it's being led by her grad school nemesis Dr. Ford Matthews is... present, to say the least. Corrie and Ford seem destined to keep butting heads, but when it becomes clear someone's interfering with the dig, the two are forced to work together once more. They'll uncover the saboteur, but will they bury their feelings for each other at the same time?
This book was truly a thrill ride from start to finish, and so immersive. Corrie and Ford's relationship is enemies to lovers catnip, and the hijinks of an archaeological dig will keep you on the edge of your seat. I did think the characters read as immature at times - they're both in their mid-30s and their refusal to communicate with each other and their friends was frustrating, even as a person who doesn't often get tripped up by miscommunication. I'd happily read many more books from Segura, and can't wait to see what she does next!

The Duchess Takes a Husband by Harper St. George
4.0
A really lovely conclusion to this series - very gentle and kind towards a character who has had not a lot of either of those in the last three books. I'm eager to read more by St. George!
