Definitely one of his better Bachman books, a second only to The Long Walk. It’s gritty, it’s quick, and it pulls no punches.

I’m sad. I really wanted to like this. It started off strong for me but after chapter 2 it felt like a slog to get through. My main two issues are:

  1. It felt like it ended up repeating its points in slightly different ways the longer it went on.
  2. It felt more like a thesis than a book.

Some of the work is dated, that’s to be expected for a 30 year old book. I would still be curious to see an actual updated version. So much has changed in the world and horror landscape since then.

Solid as all hell. I just wish things were wrapped up a bit more at the end. I’m guessing it will be touched on in the third book.

Not his best, not his worst. It spins its wheels a little too much and is kind of predictable at times. The main character wasn’t likeable at all. Pretty middle of the road (pun intended).

Very mixed on this one. From a mystery standpoint I fount it intriguing.

It was definitely quite graphic, which isn’t a huge deal for me, though sometimes it felt a little too much, especially in regards to the violence against women. Also a lot of animal shit that was hard to read.

I enjoyed the first chapter of two that took place in the past, then it went on a bit too long. It detracted from the main story for me.

Enjoyed it well enough. Wouldn’t be something I’d recommend people to read. I don’t regret reading it though.

I liked this way more than the first book I read by her. Didn’t love some of the twists at first but they’re growing on me.

The story is starting to pop off! I think I have to accept that Geralt isn’t just the main focus. So much of book one and two so far has been from other perspectives. It’s starting to grow on me.

A pretty solid Cosmere novel. Breaths and color being such a focus felt very unique to me, I haven’t seen that before. None of the “surprises” felt particularly surprising, not that they necessarily had to. The majority of the characters were enjoyable. Matched with Elantris in terms of enjoyability.

It admittedly took me about 80 pages to get into. Once I was in though, I was in. It definitely doesn’t hold any punches, some really gnarly shit going down. I’m kind of surprised by the amount of basketball, not really sure why that was such a heavy focus. I’ll definitely be checking out his other stuff.
