Flaws of characters a main focus? It's complicated

This story felt very bland and the writing was mid. I didn’t particularly like the characters and there weren’t any stakes. It was very predictable. The cover is pretty though.
I read this because of a tiktok recommendation and that was a mistake.
The writing was basic and the dialogue was just so cookie cutter. It was insta-love even for a short book. There was no build-up to spice or romance. The smut was horrible, no descriptive language whatsoever, and they were doing BDSM on their second date 😂
Everyone hyped up this series and I thought it would be good, but it was just a total let down.
I loved the demonic elements like the moving tattoos and the snake Lilith, but overall, Aviel’s demon form and powers felt barely present in the story.
I really liked Adora and Aviel at first, but Aviel crosses a lot of lines that made his character irredeemable and by the end of the book, he is just a myriad of red flags.
Had high hopes when I started this, but this book was kind of a let down. I might still try the author’s other works though!
This book was okay. The romance and relationships were cute, but the characters were flat. I think the multiple POV’s would have done better if each was written separately, rather than intertwined, especially since Ris’s POV just gets basically dropped and is inconclusive in this book.
My biggest gripe with this book was C.M. Nascosta’s writing style. Her writing was strangely passive and had poor flow, like there would be huge and unimportant descriptive paragraphs between dialogue lines that made the conversations hard to follow.
A lot of the vocabulary was also incredibly repetitive. I’d get hammered if I took a shot every time I read the word “syrupy.” The same adjective would be used every time that the same thing was talked about. Like every single time the orc spoke, his voice would be described as syrupy, or if his eyes were mentioned they would be called honey-gold every single time, and it became very very dull.
This is not a totally terrible book! Just not memorable.
I think Deceived by the Gargoyles set the bar too high for polyamorous monster romance. I read Entranced by the Basilisks expecting the same energy, but this book just isn’t as good as it’s predecessor.
In Entranced by the Basilisks, the characters and their triad isn’t as fleshed out as the love-square in the previous book is. In Deceived with the Gargoyles, Grace had a deep and loving relationship with each member of her party. Although I think Emilia and Jasper had a really well developed relationship and good chemistry, I think Emilia and Ari’s relationship felt shallow. Ari’s character lacked vulnerability and complexity. Ari was just a godlike snake being, and his main flaw was that he was arrogant because he was “so perfect,” and on top of his lying, it made me really dislike his character. I LOVED Jasper. It felt like Jasper and Emilia had a good relationship built on equal footing and Ari manipulated himself in, which was the point of the book, but I didn’t find it endearing like I think I was supposed to. In Deceived by the Gargoyles, the deception was revealed much earlier in the book, so the reader had time to forgive, but Ari’s deception is revealed later and I don’t think there was enough recovery time.
Also, I am hoping if Lillian Lark writes more polyamorous romance that there won’t be any more lying men involved because they are 2 for 2 right now with deception in polyamorous relationships. 1st time was forgivable, 2nd time it’s getting to be a lot.
Overall, this was an enjoyable read. It was a good book, just not as good as Deceived by the Gargoyles!
I read Stalked by the Kraken and wasn’t particularly impressed, so I started this book feeling skeptical, but I inhaled this book because it was phenomenal! I really enjoyed the pacing, the characters and their complicated dynamics, the spice, and the romance.
I loved Grace, and all her gargoyle hotties. Grace’s relationships with each gargoyle progressed both individually and holistically. Their relationships developed and weaved together in such a delightful, beautiful, and steamy way! I loved all the characters individually and together. This book had a lovely depiction of a healthy poly relationship and I’ve never seen that represented so well before. I absolutely loved this book!
