The Summer I Learned to Dive by Shannon McCrimmon
3.0
3.5 stars -- kind of a solid coming of age book. Some great characters, an intriguing "obstacle"... Sometimes the characters didn't do what I expected (or reacted in a way that didn't quite seem them)...I'm not sure if that was just me though. And I have to say, the Mom was really not that redeeming. But all in all an entertaining summer-feel read!

Short, sweet and adorable. I love novellas, and hate them at the same time.... I always want to know more, but this one at least sort of ended on that perfect high note. It lost a star b/c of the great dislike of Lisbeth...I know she's supposed to be the dislikable one and the comparison character, but seriously...how could Jenna EVER be friends with her? Poor Dane...

LOVED it! I would almost downgrade it to 4.5 stars b/c I found the level of detail sometimes excessive (I kept thinking she was describing something b/c it would be important to the plot, but it was just description). And yet, I fell in LOVE with the characters, and couldn't put the book down. I tend to be a bit emotionally sensitive myself so I could relate to some of the things Krista was going through (although not even close to that extreme). Mark is so lovable, I love that he's unsure sometimes too... Bought the next one and have it ready in my kindle, can't wait!

OK, to be clear, this is not my type of book. Not to say that I don't like suspense, I totally do...but the way the author goes about the suspense in the books just happens to be a bit of a pet peeve of mine and so I just ended up disliking it strongly. You know those tv shows (like the Bachelorette which I will admit I watch) where they have the sneak peeks for the next episode, or even what's gonna happen after the commercial? And they are totally misleading and make more drama than actually happens?? I *HATE* that. It makes me so angry, like I'm stupid, and makes me wonder why they think their show isn't good enough on it's own without having to create false drama. Well, rant aside, this book had that kind of feel for me. There were all these "da da daaaa...." moments that turned a chapter ender into a cliffhanger, but it was totally bogus. Or else there was all this chasing after red herrings...(though at least in the end those weren't as red herring-ish as I thought, so I guess I should up this to 1.5 stars). And I just found that I didn't care enough about the characters.... *sigh*
The other thing is that there were so many points of view, and in particular POV's that you had no idea who they were (and just barely guessed most of it in the end), that it was just so confusing. I totally get the not wanting to give the ending away, and have seen the one murderer or whatever POV, but there were MULTIPLE mystery POV's. Topped off with the fact that the kindle addition was unfortunately formatted so that there were NO SPACES between different sections (ie all of a sudden they're talking and it's clearly the next morning, but on the kindle it looks like the same paragraph), it just made for a frustrating read. So yeah, this was not my book. Oh well, it was free.

I wobbled on this one...there were times where it dragged on a bit, and I wasn't always as tolerant of Karl's idiosyncracies. But then other times I just loved Karl and Paul and Charlie. So all in all, I enjoyed the book and loved the ending...it just took a bit to get there. Sometimes I found it hard to follow the sentences b/c even though I KNEW the book was solely written from Karl's POV, I sometimes started automatically thinking this part was from Paul's POV...not sure how that could be changed, but it was confusing. Maybe it was just me though.

Loved it! It's so funny, b/c I do skim reviews before reading the different books, and it's funny how different people feel exactly opposite for some books eh? I LOVED this one over St-st-stuffed... Will and Heath just broke my heart sometimes, kwim? I connected with them in a way that I apparently didn't with Karl and Paul.... And the side characters were fabulous as always.... So yeah, guess you'll just have to read it and figure out for yourself!! :)

2.5 stars -- it was ok. A cute little read. It was just a lot more basically written than I'm used to. Not that I read really deep books, but it just felt like the way *I* would write a book...and I don't write books for a reason, b/c I don't feel I have that author magic. Maybe that was just me though. I also couldn't really get into all the fashion and celebrity excitement, cause I'm just not the kind of girl who's into brand names and stuff like that. So it was probably not a Lenore type of book to begin with....

Yeah....I guess I wasn't sure what to expect, even after reading the reviews. Or maybe I did know what to expect, but I was still blown away. I don't know what intrigues me about M/M stories...but I do love them so. But I have never read one with a voice as beautiful as this one. It definitely has the explicit descriptions that tend to make me categorize a book as erotica, but this is not a book you read just to...well....enjoy yourself in *that* way. This is a love story. A beautiful love story told by Al, who is a beautiful soul. I don't know how Ms. Merrow was inspired to write this, but I loved it. Sometimes it's the simple things that really drive home that point. I don't even know if I'm making any sense...all I know is I loved it. I loved the way it was written, I loved the characters, I loved the love between Al and Larry, I just loved it. It makes my heart feel good.

2.5 stars -- I don't know if I just wasn't in the right mood...but I had a hard time getting into this one. It's an interesting premise...but I have way too many other books/series on my list to keep going with this one.

Solid romantic read... There were some quirks with a few characters that just rubbed me the wrong way...or maybe not quirks, but just things they did or items of their personalities that in the end detracted from my enjoyment...hence the 3 stars. I think I liked the side love stories more than the main one in the end....
