The One You Love by Paul Pilkington

1.0

OK, to be clear, this is not my type of book. Not to say that I don't like suspense, I totally do...but the way the author goes about the suspense in the books just happens to be a bit of a pet peeve of mine and so I just ended up disliking it strongly. You know those tv shows (like the Bachelorette which I will admit I watch) where they have the sneak peeks for the next episode, or even what's gonna happen after the commercial? And they are totally misleading and make more drama than actually happens?? I *HATE* that. It makes me so angry, like I'm stupid, and makes me wonder why they think their show isn't good enough on it's own without having to create false drama. Well, rant aside, this book had that kind of feel for me. There were all these "da da daaaa...." moments that turned a chapter ender into a cliffhanger, but it was totally bogus. Or else there was all this chasing after red herrings...(though at least in the end those weren't as red herring-ish as I thought, so I guess I should up this to 1.5 stars). And I just found that I didn't care enough about the characters.... *sigh*

The other thing is that there were so many points of view, and in particular POV's that you had no idea who they were (and just barely guessed most of it in the end), that it was just so confusing. I totally get the not wanting to give the ending away, and have seen the one murderer or whatever POV, but there were MULTIPLE mystery POV's. Topped off with the fact that the kindle addition was unfortunately formatted so that there were NO SPACES between different sections (ie all of a sudden they're talking and it's clearly the next morning, but on the kindle it looks like the same paragraph), it just made for a frustrating read. So yeah, this was not my book. Oh well, it was free.
