lots of very beautiful passages and i learned a lot about writing satisfying unnerving short fiction about land + water. sometimes it felt like the writer had actually crawled into my brain and put to paper a lot of stuff i’ve been thinking about over the past year. a good read if you love m john harrison’s more recent work as much as i do

really wanted to enjoy this - love fitzcarraldo, and i was really taken by the premise. unfortunately just fell flat for me. i don’t like not finishing stuff but there’s too many books i actually want to read in this world for that !!
