The Book of Errors by Annie Coggan

I delighted in this art-book. Three historical sites in the US were restored with the best of intentions, but reveal so much more about the architects or historical (historicist) societies involved. One wealthy benefactor recreates a room from a childhood memory--and of course it will not match the house's actual blueprint! I am a Philly person and enjoyed reading about Betsy Ross's house--restored in the 1920s to look more lofty and important, since legend has it George Washington visited once. This interaction between current interpretation of the past and the actual sites events took place is FASCINATING.

I couldn't put this down! For anyone who has left the big city to move home and start over. The weird office politics felt a little *too* real. I loved reading about the friendships, the nights watching silver Screen Hollywood oldies in all their problematic glory, the way this protagonist develops crushes on her bosses, all bosses, every time.

The longing in this book! For our parents to truly see us, for love, for the comfort of friends. Like An American Marriage, which I also loved, Silver Sparrow puts a family in an impossible situation and explores every angle and interpersonal dynamic possible.
Sometimes I did have to take a breather because the scenes where parents manipulate a child or teenage girl were just TOO REAL. But I love how complicated, flawed, and human all characters were.

This mesmerized me and I could not stop: Yes, on its face this is about a performing arts high school but it is so much more about perspective, the truth, and storytelling.
Characters are aware they are characters in someone else's story. One character is upset she is side-lined and delivers a monologue. The meta layers pile on.
The writing is incredible.

Three adolescents experience a microcosm of the United States in the 1960s in their own neighborhood. The Vietnam War rips families apart all around them while these children become teens and try to enter the world of adults. Rainey and Lulu will stay with me for a long time.

I don't want to include spoilers, but this *is* book 4 in a series about blood witches and warriors wearing armor made of slaughtered stone crustaceans so. Not sure any descriptions would be intelligible to folks who aren't already in the Stormlight Archive books.
