The Hunger by Michael D. Young

So this book was a bit hard to follow at first. Young seems to have this whole world mapped out yet seems to have left his readers in the dark. However the more I read the better I took to understanding the magically world that Young is trying to weave around us. Azil the first character you meet is seemed a bit vain at first mostly thinking of his fashion sense and a party he must attend that evening, things do start to get interesting when a assassin is sent to kill him, from there we are wrapped up in a Wizardly adventure.

To be honest I was a bit bored of the story at first, however it picked up it's pace around the 6th chapter and I started to get more interested. My favorite character was Evelet, she was badass. I do recommend this book if you like fantasy adventures however keep reading past the first couple of chapters, it does get good!

I know when I started this book that I was in for some spic adventire and it did not disappoint. In a way it sort of reminded me of Lord of The Rings considering that Brooks was inspired by Tolkien it makes sense. A Half Man/ Half Elf is burdened with a quest that only he can do to defeat the big bad. He is accompanied by a Wizard (or a Druid in this case) and several others including a bad ass Dwarf, who ended up being my favorite character.

There were two big gripes I had about this book. One was the long monologues about the History. It just seemed to go on and on and on. I understand that Brooks was trying to do he wanted the reader to have the entire backstory so there would be no questions, but man was it just so hard to get through all that reading!

The second problem I had was the major lack of females in this story. One does not even show up until the last half of the book. I'm not saying that there had to be a major female character (although that would have been awesome) but at least a couple of appearance would have sufficed.

Despite these two things the book was okay. Not the absolute best fantasy I have read and not the worst either. I am going to read The Elfstones of Shannara because I would like to compare it to the show when I watch it.
Connected Souls A Dog Story by Dana Landers

If your an animal person you may love this story. Let me give you the first paragraph from the book as it best sums up what this book is about.
'On Feb. 10, a dog named Cujo was surrendered to the Westfield animal shelter. Also on Feb. 10 in a Westfield home, a dog named Codi said his final goodbye to the family he had loved for over 10 years. This is the story of their connected souls.'
Anyway the begining of this story was so sad, you spend Codi's last moments with his family and even though he is at peace with what is happening you still grieve. Cujo story is sad and while you know the ending will be happy (at least you hope) you still can't help but get mad at Cujo's former owners. I will never know how someone can just give up a pet. It just doesn't make sense to me and it never will.

I liked the beginning of the book as it brought back elements of the last book that I love, however about 75% in I almost wanted to just stop completely. Ceony seemed to turn into this pathetic, whinny, love sick know-it-all girl. It was disgusting. I hate to see a strong heroine in a book just be reduced to something like this.

Ceony does something dangerous and makes a mistake that puts people in danger and yet she gets all sulky when people get upset. I almost left it on the DNR list, but I powered through.

There is a third and final installment however with how Ceony turned in this one I wonder how she would be in the third book The Master Magician. She need to just understand she is still an apprentice, she doesn't even know all the spells of her craft. I honestly didn't mind the unfurling romance between Ceony and Emery in the beginning. I thought it was cute (even if she is technically his student), but it seemed that it made Ceony not be able to trust that Emery can take care of himself and caused her to make rash and wrong decisions. This book was not horrible by any means however you could say I may be over reacting.

I am going to have to think about reading the third book, I almost feel like I have to.
The Story of Awkward by R.K. Ryals

I really really liked this book and I recommend to anyone who has ever felt awkward. Parts of the story were going in a very obvious direction, but I didn't start reading this book for surprise plots or mysteries. Peregrine reminded me of myself in my teen years, upset at everyone, just wanting to immerse herself into her own fantasies and day dreams.

Reading Peregrine's world come to life was amazing. I don't want to give away the play as I would like for people to give it a read. The romantic angle in the book was a bit obvious however it did not develop how most romances do. I kinda wish I had read this book when I was younger as even though I can relate through my previous experiences this would have been great to read when I was going through my prominent awkwardness. The writing was not amazing but it was good. A Definite read I would say.
