The Post-Birthday World by Lionel Shriver
2.0
I watched Sliding Doors, with Gwenyth Paltrow, and I think I liked that better than this. The concept of the book, two alternate outcomes to a life because of one decision, is interesting. There was a bit of repetition in the tales though, each chapter followed similar story lines and the overlap of some events was obvious and a little annoying at times (much like my dislike for stories told from alternate perspectives). The theme was driven in a little hard when the main character wrote a book with the same theme Shriver seemed to be trying to get across. It also seemed a little peculiar that if Irena didn't kiss Ramsey Lawrence was destined to cheat on her, but if she did kiss Ramsey Irena would turn into the person she wanted to be. I have read a fair amount of 'post 9/11 books', I was annoyed by the use of 9/11 in this book. It didn't seem important for the story.
The Assault on Reason by Al Gore

Reading 'current event' books years after they were written is still interesting, but it makes me feel behind the times.
Half in Love by Maile Meloy

Each story was so different from the previous. Every story was strong and unique. It seemed like the stories toward the end of the book got more and more sad, but in a good and tragic way.
Hubris: The Inside Story of Spin, Scandal, and the Selling of the Iraq War by Michael Isikoff, David Corn
4.0
While a little depressing, Hubris was a really fast read. It's almost 19 hours long, but it really flew by. It reads kind of like a suspense novel with so much deceit and backstabbing.
The Prestige by Christopher Priest

Thankfully I haven't seen the movie in a long time, so I could not remember the whole plot while listening to this book. The first part of the book was a little confusing, but later made more sense. Listening to all the dates being read made the timeline of the journal entries a little unclear. I really enjoyed it, and I'm glad I decided not to give up on listening to this. Now I eagerly looking forward to watching the movie again, and not liking it as much.
