Wow, this was not at all what I expected from reading the back of the book. I have to say I really… really enjoyed this book. The dual points of view were executed beautifully. AND this ended up having the found family trope- my favorite trope!!
Wow! Loyal to a Fault breaks down the idea of loyalty, specifically for people-pleasing women, and how being too loyal to others can create brokenness within yourself. Courtney talks a lot about creating boundaries and how important it is not only to create boundaries with others but also with yourself. If you find yourself struggling with your relationships, spending more time and energy on others emotions and needs that you neglect your needs and emotions, find yourself resenting the ones you love, or overall exhausted from the cycle of people-pleasing, you NEED to read this book.
By far my favorite anthology! I have recently gotten into reading horror anthologies and was really excited to see another one I could get my eyes on. I am so glad I got to read this book and cannot stop recommending it to everyone! Though my average rating of all the stories ended up being about 4.5 stars, The White Guy Dies First is an overall 5 star read for me.
This anthology is an entertaining collection of 13 scary stories by 13 authors of color, the stories are unique, fun, and chilling and left me desperately wanting more. From a circus and clown based horror to increasingly unhinged diary entries. There's a story of home invasion, possession, a lonely haunted house and so much more. I am happy to report that I have many new authors to keep my eye out for!
What really caught my eye was the cover, the beautiful cover alone hold such an important message, sparking interest and spreading awareness for the MMIWG movement.
The book itself was a suspenseful mystery that had me tearing through the book to get to the end. Not only are our characters fighting to solve the mystery or the abused animals, but they are navigating new friendships, being bullied, abuse at home, and our main characters missing mother. I loved the story, but the characters really did it for me, Reno crafted relatable and realistic characters that I found myself rooting for, and really caring about. I seriously recommend reading this book!
Summer is for block parties, hanging out with your friends, a booming and being annoyed with your sibling, attending parties, and… accidentally summoning demons???
Well at least that is what Devon, her twin, and their friend group get into. Devon has planned to make this summer the “Best Summer Ever” because her genius twin sister is graduating early and this very well may be the last summer they all spend together before everything changes and she hopes she can encourage her sister, Drew, to stay. Obviously, while on the journey to the best summer ever, they hit a pretty big hurdle when a demon targets the friend group, going through a kill order that puts Devon as the friend group’s resident blonde up front.
Honestly, I loved this so much. If you are a horror fan and love the traditional horror tropes you’ll likely enjoy this. Though I guessed the twist or “reveal”, it didn’t make it any less enjoyable and I wasn’t any less anxious to see how everything would play out.
This was such a sweet middle-grade novel about friendship, sabotage, justice, and attempted murder that left me guessing the whole time who the culprit of such a heinous act could be. It’s mysterious and leafy me craving some sweet treats.
When a notoriously mean chef drops into a coma whole judging a baking competition for young teens competing for a scholarship to the high school of their dreams, the bullied assistant, the lovable ever-tv-ready chef judge, and four contestants who all seem to have something to hide. Two best friends, an aspiring baker and an aspiring journalist seek to uncover the truth.
Millie Fleur’s Poison Garden is filled with adorably fun illustrations and a beautiful message of being yourself even if others think your a little weird, you never know who you may encourage to embrace themselves because of you.
I love the gothic vibes and “creepy” plants, i will be recommending this to friends with young children.
