Prepare the tissues, as none who enter shall come out the other side unscathed. All the Blues in the Sky is an incredibly emotional journey of a young girl who is navigating the grief of the unexpected death of her best friend, turning a day that should be full of celebration into a day full of tears. Sage finds, through familial relationships, her grief group, and new friendships that grief can be so much more than tears and sadness, but the whole spectrum of emotions.
I 100% recommend reading this book, especially if you are dealing or have dealt with the passing of a loved one. Just make sure you have tissues!
Listen to Your Sister is a powerhouse of a speculative horror novel that is an ode to black women, specifically the eldest sisters. It's a terrifying and emotionally raw novel I related to on the deepest level. Calla is the twenty-five-year-old parent to her youngest siblings, simultaneously bending over backward to make sure her brothers are taken care of and resenting being put in the situation that she has to raise her siblings. Struggling at every turn, overrun with nightmares, and in desperate need of assistance. It's about to all go downhill for her and her family.
Ex Marks the Spot is a fun, funny, and emotional journey of self and familial discovery for Gemma and Xander in this rivals-to-lovers, second-chance romance. Gemma, when she finds out that her grandfather, whom she previously thought was deceased, was alive until recently left her an inheritance, she's excited to receive the money she desperately needs to attend college. Instead, she finds puzzles and riddles that lead her on a treasure hunt starting in Taiwan. Along the way and with the assistance of her ex, Xander, they uncover tied family secrets, history, lost love, and potentially almost commit a crime. This is a book you won't want to miss.
HOLY HECK! Why did it take me so long to start this book finally? I have no idea and an so upset I didn't read it earlier. Five Broken Blades is the epic adventure of a group of unlikely allies - murderers and thieves - tasked with murdering a god-King. Full of romance, danger, fights, found family, and betrayal, you will not want to put this book down. Honestly, this is one of my favorite fantasy books now!
The Staircase in the Woods was a dark and eerie, yet oddly emotional novel about a group of friends, who in their teens found a mysterious staircase in the woods that led to nowhere. One missing friend and decades later, the group finds themselves back in the woods where the staircase has reappeared in a reluctant search for their friend. "Wow", is all I can say. I enjoyed it.
However, one thing that I wasn't the biggest fan of is all the inner dialogue and random sentences/paragraphs in parentheses.
Wow! I LOVED this book. I had been putting off reading it for a while, though it has been on my TBR. When this book was selected for book club I was excited.
I did not expect how much I would enjoy this book. I absolutely recommend!
