It's like taking an action zombie series and making it into a book. There's a lot going on and it's definitely entertaining, but nothing to really think about. It's definitely a guilty pleasure type series. I would never recommend this to anyone but at the same time, it is enjoyable to read while remaining terrible upon reflection.

This book reads like the lamest action movie to ever exist. I tried so hard after hearing so many good things, but I cannot look past the constant cliches and one-liners and the absolutely terrible writing and unbelievable circumstances in the story. If you told a highschooler wrote this for an English project I would have no problem believing it. I should have trusted my instincts on this one. Even the title is bad.
It's disappointing after how entertaining (but also full of cheesey cliches) The Martian was.
Weir could have had a very fruitful career writing for blockbuster if they still existed. Novels are not his forte.

Every other line is a cliche.
Too many unbelievable circumstances present themselves in order for the plot to progress.
Warning: you will feel like hitting yourself in the head every two sentences over how rediculous this is.

I was very pleasantly surprised by this! I've read graphic novels by Ellis in the past that I couldn't get into, but this was very enjoyable! The ending was great, and it's nice to read something modern that isn't dating itself too much.

Highly recommend skipping this one. It's boring and predictable. Assuming it won't an award because of the current LGBTQ climate because the prose is lacking and the story is so boiler plate I burnt my eyes reading it. It just screams bible thumper lesbian fan fic. Not at all worth the 4 hours it took from me.
