“Trying to cultivate a sense of self is hard enough. Refining the edges means trimming back some growth.” “We cannot be silenced. We cannot be ignored. And we are not going back.” “Destroying the good things in your life is not taking control.” “Each step counts… no matter what.”
I’m one of those people who usually never read poetry, but I’m so glad I checked this one out because I really enjoyed it. I related to so many of the poems and a few of them made me tear up.
Reading the poems was an emotional roller coaster, and a surprisingly healing experience. There were sad ones but also some funnier and more lighthearted ones that gave me optimism about things getting better. I loved having the excerpts after each poem to further clarify the meaning and also to tell the stories behind the poems.
This book reminds you that you’re not alone with whatever you’re going through. I already know I will pick this up again soon.
I highly recommend checking this out even if you’re not a fan of poetry.
I see you, you’re not alone. Thank you for letting me ARC read this!
“How about you keep that scary magic of yours to yourself, and I’ll follow your stupid orders?” “I don’t care enough for you to hate you, darling.” “Your mask is slipping, little liar.” “Remember that you’re stronger than you think.”
Great start to a new romantasy series!
The book follows the FMC, Elessia, a half-fae in a world where half-fae are ostracized because of their heritage. They don’t fit in with either the humans or the fae.
The world-building was well done and nicely documented how the world is still healing from past events and conflicts between humans and the fae.
Elessia was a strong and fierce FMC with a difficult backstory. Parts of her backstory were revealed throughout the story. Even when faced with tough choices, she didn’t back down and instead focused on what was right and kept fighting.
The two MMCs were different but in some ways similar to each other. Merrick was a mysterious fae guard with his own secrets, while Loche was a brooding and curious human. My opinion on both of them kept changing throughout the book.
The plot was engaging and kept me hooked from start to finish. There’s a lot going on, with multiple plot twists. The pacing was fast, but it never felt rushed. I can’t wait to read the next book and see what happens next!
I received an ARC of this book and I am voluntarily leaving a review. Receiving ARC didn’t affect my opinion of the book.
The blurb and idea of the book sounded great, but unfortunately the book wasn’t for me.
I had a hard time getting into the story and connecting with the characters. I didn’t feel the chemistry between the FMC and the MMC, and the reason for their actions wasn’t that clear. I mean, yes, the FMC had a difficult childhood, but what happened during the seven year time jump that made her what she became wasn’t explained, at least not in the 110 pages I read. Of course, I can’t say anything about the rest of the book and maybe there was an explanation for that later in the book. Also, her brother just disappeared?
I personally think that the storyline had potential, but could have used a bit more work and editing. There were multiple parts that felt quite choppy for me and the writing wasn’t as “fluid” or flowing as it could have been.

Flaws of characters a main focus? It's complicated
4.5
“You’re not very good at following directions, are you, Bunny?” “Eyes on me, baby girl.” “You know how beautiful you are when you’re on your knees for me.” “Good girl using your safeword.”
I was lucky enough to ARC-read Run Rabbit Run a while ago and loved it. Reading this prequel brought so much more to the story.
I loved learning more about Bunny as a character and also seeing the beginning of her and Demetrius’s relationship and how their relationship developed to the point where it was at the beginning of Run Rabbit Run.
I liked the well-presented anxiety, PTSD and OCD representation in this book. In my opinion, the author writes the healthy BDSM dynamic and BDSM as a healing / coping mechanism really well.
Even though THIHS is a prequel to RRR, I highly recommend reading this after RRR. Reading THIHS first will spoil the ending of RRR.
Please check the trigger warnings before reading!

“We were a fucking match made in purgatory.” “You act like I’ve never seen your dick before.” “This doesn’t have to be weird if you don’t make it.” “Baby boy, I’m gonna need you to shut up so a man can eat in peace.”
Short, fast-paced, spicy & sweet MM rockstar romance.
Loved the relationship development between Iggy & Marley. They both seemed like interesting characters and I loved their character development, both as individuals and together.
The degradation and praise were top tier 🔥 And the spice was spicing! 🥵
I haven’t read the previous books in the Rhythm and Tempo series but that didn’t affect my reading experience.

“You are just a nightmare. This is all a nightmare.” “What new level of madness is this?” “You cannot break what is already broken.” “Now, be a good little devil and do exactly as I say.”
Short Living Nightmares novella happening after The House of Whispers.
I find Casper and Jakkal both to be interesting characters, and I loved their relationship dynamic.
I also enjoyed the deeper look into Casper’s magic and how her mind was working.
Even though the book was quite short, there was a lot happening. The asylum itself was an intriguing concept. Some of the side characters had me second guessing what was going on and what their intentions were.

“The more wrong it is, the better it feels. Let me teach you how to take care of yourself.” “She’s my slut. My Queen of Hearts.” “Such a needy little thing, aren’t you?” “Why fight what feels natural?”
I haven’t read My Favorite Girl, the novella that happens before My Favorite Sin, but that didn’t affect my reading experience.
Straight from the start, the dynamic and chemistry between Dan and Ally were so good. The lessons and “teach me” moments between them were some of my favorite moments.
The "will they, won't they" moments had me internally yelling at the characters at times, but when they finally gave in, it was all worth the wait. I'm glad they got the ending they deserved.
Both Dan and Ally grew a lot as characters throughout the book, and I loved their character development both as individuals and as a couple.
This book was an emotional roller coaster. At times, I was so close to throwing my Kindle to the nearest wall, but there were also some funny parts that made me laugh as well as sad parts that made me tear up. And the spice truly was spicing!
I can’t wait to read more books by the author!

Unfortunately, this book wasn’t for me, and I DNF’d it at 34%. The idea of the book sounded great, and the beginning was promising, but after the first few chapters, I felt things started to move too quickly and felt rushed
Personally, I would have liked to see a bit more build-up and description in certain impactful moments instead of those events happening in just one or two sentences before jumping to the next scene. But of course, that’s just a personal preference.
This wasn’t a bad book by any means, and I’m sure many readers will love it. Unfortunately, it just wasn’t the right fit for me.
