It felt kinda repetitive sometimes: There were A LOT OF BREATHS. After 30% I kept rolling my eyes when I read the word breath. I have it as an ebook and when I searched for 'breath' it appears every 1-2 pages or so.
I overall enjoyed it, the vibes, the twists. I liked that it was more mystery than magic honestly. Felt refreshing reading a mystery with a magical twist and not the other way around.

It was okay. But the sentence on the cover is misleading. I didn’t find it very cozy, well sometimes it was. But there was a lot of action in my opinion. And since I expected a lot of coziness, it was too much action. 🤷🏽‍♀️

This was cozy and comforting. Another reviewer described it as cozypunk. I think that’s very fitting. Will definitely read the second book soon!

I was very annoyed by the sister. VERY annoyed. I had to put the book down at 57% because I was so angry lol…
The Story overall was ok. It wasn’t really a mystery. But it has definitely some thriller aspects. Their background story, their childhood. I only wished there was more killing. Oh and I didn’t find anything funny. I heard it was supposed to be satire. Not my kind of humour I guess.

Sadly I didn’t like it that much. The dialogues are very emotionless. I didn’t care for the flashbacks (or whatever) of Lily’s family. I didn’t see the purpose of the lists with the historical events. The side plot with Shirley and her bf was unnecessary and pointless, because it didn’t have a climax.
PS: Also I was very irritated by the choice of the author to put words with chinese chatacters into the book. I coincidentally started another book with Chinese protagonists right after this one, the author also puts Chinese words in it but I am actually able to read them.
🤷🏽‍♀️ Overall: meh

DNF at 38% .. I just can’t anymore. This was my first 'hard' Sci Fi book. I guess either Sci Fi isn’t for me or this one was just a bad start getting into the genre. I don’t even know what else I could say about this book. The people I follow, praised this so much so I really wanted to like it. 🤷🏽‍♀️ But I don’t. I maybe will give Becky Chambers another shot with ‚angry planet‘ but not in the near future. Because this book put me in a huge reading slump.

It took me quite a while to gather my thoughts about this book to write them down. I think it would make a good movie. It was atmospheric and eerie.
The first 40% were interesting, I read those pages in one sitting. The middle 40% not so much, so I put it down for a while and read different books. It just felt like nothing really happened. The last 20% were fine but I wished for more closure, more solving. If the middle part would‘ve been a bit more fast paced than the whole book itself and the ending wouldn’t feel so rushed to me. It just ended kinda abruptly imo 🤷🏽‍♀️

This was such a waste of time WTF! This book wasn’t made for me. Like the movie ‚mother!‘ wasn’t made for me either. I don’t get the hype, the few people I follow gave this book… I didn’t feel anything while reading it. And when I got to THAT (plot twist or whatever) part I just got angry. I‘m glad I borrowed it and not had to pay a cent for it. 🤨

Did not finish book. Stopped at 43%.
The writing is beautiful but the story wasn't for me. I guess I like vampire stories only on screen (TVD, TG, TB and Underworld to be precise.)
