A valuable and interesting look into how our current society has splintered and how it functions. Sometimes it’s a little all over the place, and jumps from here to there, which is why it won’t get a full five stars from me. But it’s an absolutely worthwhile read.

This was sadly not very well written, which often threw me off the plot.

Oh Berlin, you wonderfully eccentric capital, you will be missed.

An important and timely read, with the rise of fascism globally. A great look into the Berlin of the late 20s and early 30s and the slow decline and decay of the city and its people into full fascist Nazism.

Berlin has always felt like home to me, taking in the people straying from the normative. I imagine that is what it felt like in the 20s too. And once again we are at a tipping point, where every freedom we have can be pulled from under our feet immediately.

I very much don’t get the hype. This lacked pacing and interesting characters. I was never invested in the fates of the characters. It also could have been edited down by at least 200 pages.

Unlikeable, irredeemable characters? Fantastic, give me 15 of them right now.

This could have done with some editing at the beginning, however it was a masterful ending, even if everything stays open
