Dare to Lead: Brave Work. Tough Conversations. Whole Hearts. by Brené Brown

This book applies Brown’s former writings & ideas to the workplace. Although it’s intended for leadership I think it would be useful for most people who work with other people to read. I found some of her terms (rumble etc) annoying, but the concepts felt spot on once I got over that. The book focuses on how to lead through asking questions, being vulnerable, and being willing to question yourself - something we could all benefit from.

This is a phenomenal memoir of a woman’s experience in the army. It is smart and complicated and well written. From both a literary and personal perspective it’s utterly compelling.

While I still really enjoyed it, this French novel was not my favorite. The detectives weren’t given so much depth. The girls at the heart of the story were more complicated and she caught some aspects of teenage friendship that rang true. All in all a good, but not great, read.

This is a truly beautiful, wise, and moving book, mostly about being human and female and black and resourceful in the world.

A little hokey, a little beautiful & moving. A love story to trees with some people in it.
