Horns by Joe Hill
5.0
I loved it. It's true, I was a bit lost at the beginning, but he pulled me back in with brutal force. Finished the novel in 2 days.
I loved the plot, the character, the way he wrote it, not pretentious, but exquisite. This is a book where he digs deep into the characters and in the story. I had the feeling of reading a true story. It didn't feel like every single character plotted together against Ig,it just that everybody hated or disliked him for their own reasons, contributing little by little to his torment and anguish. Human error, malice and prejudice because Ig had it all and they made him nothing.
Horns is a book about humans, about how putrid and evil they can be. Ig, with the help of his horns and new found powers, digs into the human soul and takes to the surface everything that they hold evil, every bad thought they had.
Ig was consumed by the death of his beloved Merrin, who was raped and murdered. A tragic story about love, death and human nature. Loved it.

Day Watch by Sergei Lukyanenko

Loved it, yes, I did. At first I was taken aback by Alissa's presence in the book, I wasn't a great fan of her in the first one, but the thing is that in the end, I almost cried for her.
This book is different, more mature, it can be sensed in the writing, in the forming of the sentence, and, of course, the fact that it wasn't pure Lukynenko writing(something that I don't think that I'm happy with...).
In any case, after taking me a month to get over the first story of the book, I couldn't put it down. Action, new characters, but most importantly: new insight on the story, on the Other world, the "creatures" that the Twilight can spawn. I was impressed and I loved it ("Mirror, mirror"). And, as soon as Anton came into the picture, I was more than thrilled: I was ecstatic.
I love the way that everything makes sense and it's planned in advance and the ending of this book was really good. I enjoyed it, I repeat, after the first story, not that it wasn't written well... but I couldn't relate with Alissa, I felt sorry for her but that was that, pity, which is a terrible feeling.

I can say that I liked this one, not too much, but 3 stars seems enough. I read it over a weekend, in the snatched moments that I had. The idea was good, very interesting, but somewhere in the writing it went into a dangerous path: predictability.
I was expecting the ending, I just wanted to know when. But I enjoyed a lot her journey, the things that she wrote in her journal. That's what kept me going through this: Christine.
Pity that the story didn't catch the given wings.

Twilight Watch by Sergei Lukyanenko

Wow. Stunning book, loved it, loved it! How everything folded and unfolded, how beautiful the words danced into paper/screen. If I missed Anton in "The Day Watch", having him back now was a piece of heaven; I love this character. I'm really happy that it made a comeback. And the new ones that were introduced... I wonder what will come with them. I have high hopes:D
I can say that I was expecting something different towards the end, a slight note of disappointment that quickly washed away when I understood that it couldn't have been another way around it, it made sense.
This book reveals all those things that were slippery to Anton in the previous two books. Now he's more mature, he learns more things, but at the same time he doubts more. I just love what's happening with him, what things he has to face and the discoveries he makes.
I love all the books, but this one is by far the best.

Masquerade Secrets by Janelle Daniels
3.0
Same story with a wallaflower that at a Masquerade attracts the attention of this utterly handsome man with broad shoulders and black raven hair and very, very rich! We even have an evil lady that tries her best to have this man. Oh well, we have everything, even breathless-I'm-going-to-faint kisses. The writing isn't bad, but much too predictable for my taste. A cute little book to pass the time ;)
I'm not sure I should give 3 stars, but it's more like 2.7 and I quite enjoyed it so.. hell, why not! :D
